Recycle batteries responsibly!

Batteries can cause fires if they’re tossed loose into household trash or recycling bins. When it’s time to replace one, check your local battery or household hazardous waste drop-off options.

For extra safety, cover the terminals of lithium and rechargeable batteries with tape before taking them in. If a battery is damaged, swollen, or leaking, handle it carefully and contact your local disposal site for instructions.

A few small steps can help protect our homes, waste workers, and community. ♻️

🔥 October is Fire Safety Month! 🔥

This week, October 4–10, is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.” Many everyday devices use lithium-ion batteries, so a few simple habits can help keep your home safer:

🔋 Use the charger made for your device.
🔋 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface, away from beds, couches, and doorways.
🔋 Unplug them when they’re fully charged.
🔋 Stop using a battery or device if it looks swollen, damaged, or unusually hot.

While you’re thinking about fire safety, check your smoke alarms and make sure everyone at home knows two ways out of each room and where to meet outside.

A few minutes of preparation can make a big difference. Kachemak Emergency Services encourages everyone to make fire safety part of your routine, all year long. ❤️‍🔥

This year’s dates and theme are from the National Fire Protection Association.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, and ordinary citizens who answered the call with extraordinary courage. We also honor those who have since lost their lives from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

Twenty five years later, their bravery, sacrifice, and devotion to others continue to inspire us. May we never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the families who carry their loss, and the strength our nation showed in the days that followed.

From all of us at Kachemak Emergency Service, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
