🦠 Sick Season is Here! 🍂

As we head into cold and flu season, we kindly ask families to help us keep all of our participants and staff healthy. ❤️

Please do not send your loved one to the Day Program if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness, including:

🤒 Fever
🤢 Vomiting
💩 Diarrhea
😷 A wet/productive cough
🤧 Other signs of illness
❤️ Or simply saying they don't feel well

We have also started checking temperatures upon arrival. Please wait with your loved one until we have completed their temperature check before leaving.

If your loved one arrives with symptoms of illness or develops symptoms while at the program, we will give you a call and ask that they return home to rest and recover.

We know illness can be inconvenient for families, but keeping everyone healthy is a team effort! Thank you for helping us protect our participants, staff, and their families. 💛🌻

Thank you for helping us keep Portzline Day Program a healthy and happy place for everyone! ❤️

As family caregivers we understand the physical and emotional demands of our responsibilities. At the same time, it is unfair to assume the same understanding from friends and even family. As a result, at times, we hear comments that are intended to be well meaning, however, in reality they just reinforce an emotional toll we’re experiencing. Haven’t we heard comments such as:

“You never complain.” The consequence is our silence is meant to not to burden others while we absorb all caregiving issues.

“It’s admirable you gave up your career.” The consequence is we worked hard to reach our career goals and needed to sadly interrupt them.

“It’s wonderful keeping your mother in her home.” The consequence is we have turned our lives upside down because we promised mom this would happen.

“You’re a saint.” The consequence is being held to a standard that is not healthily attainable.

“Being always available for dad is great.” The consequence is giving up a big part of our personal lives has been so sadly isolating.

“It’s terrific how well you’re holding up.” The consequence is I work to show an “I’m fine,” image but you don’t have a glue how I really feel.

“You were always the “good” child.” The consequence is you are putting a ranking on me and my siblings, which puts the responsibility on me.

The truth is unless caregivers speak openly about what we’re feeling and experiencing we can’t expect others to know what is going on under the hood. We have to learn and be comfortable with letting others know what we are experiencing and the support we need!
