A Brief History

Before the Claiborne Parish Public Library came into existence the Town of Homer’s public library needs were met through the efforts of the Women’s Department Club maintaining what was known as the Homer Public Library. It was housed upstairs in the Homer City Hall, the library staff was made up of volunteers, the books were donated copies from the public and the hours of service were limited. The main branch of the first demonstration library was on West Main Street bordering on U. Haynesville Branch was placed in a rental building on Main Street in Haynesville and had remained in the same location since 1951. The name of the Haynesville Branch Library was officially changed to Joe W. Webb Memorial Library in 1989 as a memorial to Mr. Webb remained and active member of the Board until his death in 1988. In September of 2002 the library was able to purchase the building that houses the Joe W. Webb Memorial Library from the estate of Mr. In the spring of 1987 the main branch moved into the first new building that the library ever occupied. It was a great success for Claiborne Parish. In late 2002 and early 2003, plans to expand the building began and Wayne Coco and Associates were hired to begin architectural ideas for the project. They came up with proposed plans and several meetings were held to see how the building would be financed. In February 2013 the main library closed and everything was packed up and moved out of the building by March 1, 2013. From the very beginning the project proceeded with very, very few problems. It was an amazing site to see the old library transformed into a totally new library and the additions become reality. The newly completed and remodeled library opened for business on July 21, 2014.

Those who have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our annual history book, HISTORIC CLAIBORNE 2026, it won't be long now! The manuscript was sent to the printer today. It's the biggest and perhaps the best history we've produced with some very special features by some brand new writers for this annual project.

Here's a preview of the cover, the Moreland Family Homestead, which still stands on LA Hwy 9 just south of Homer. You don't want to miss the story of the rescue of this 175-year-old home, or the account of one of the most fascinating places in early Claiborne, Spring Lake. And you have to read the account of the pursuit of the outlaw Billy the Kid by three--yes, three!--former Claiborne Parish residents in the wild and woolly West!

We expect to have the books in hand sometime around October 15-20.

Better late than never! 😂

I completely forgot to post this photo from September 30th! These kids absolutely LOVE their shark puppets!

We had some serious shark business going on at the library that day! 😂 I’m pretty sure we were only one “Baby Shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo!” away from turning the whole library into a shark concert!

Looks like these sharks have officially taken over the Claiborne Parish Library!

💎✨ Diamond Painting + Good Fellowship = A Pretty Great Tuesday! ✨💎

These pictures are from our Diamond Painting group this past Tuesday, and let me tell you… we may not have solved all the world’s problems, but we sure did put a LOT of tiny, sparkly diamonds in their proper places! 😂💎

Our Diamond Painting group meets EVERY Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Claiborne Parish Library. 📚💎

All you have to do is bring your Diamond Painting kit, pull up a chair, and hang out with us! We enjoy working on our projects, laughing, chatting, and enjoying some good old-fashioned fellowship. ❤️

👉 Don't have a Diamond Painting kit? No problem! 💎
Our local Dollar General had several kits available when I was there Monday for only $5 each! 🎉 And if you want even more choices, Amazon has TONS of amazing Diamond Painting kits to choose from!

We have one of our patrons working on small Diamond Painting magnets, and there are so many different options out there—big kits, small kits, magnets, coasters, and more! 💎✨

And before you say, “I can't do Diamond Painting because I can't see well enough…” — I can't see those tiny little diamonds very well either! That's why I use a good magnifying glass, and it makes a HUGE difference!
If you have trouble with your hands shaking, you might be surprised at how much you enjoy this hobby, too. It gives you something fun to focus on and can be great practice for eye-hand coordination. Plus, once those tiny diamonds are stuck down, they're not going anywhere!

So come give it a try! You might just discover a new hobby… and make some new friends while you're at it! ❤️💎

I would LOVE to see our group grow! So, whether you're an experienced Diamond Painter or you've never placed a single tiny diamond in your life, come join us!

⚠️ Side effects may include:
💎 Becoming obsessed with sparkly things
💎 Saying, “I only need to finish ONE more section.”
💎 Accidentally buying more Diamond Painting kits than you could possibly finish 😂

Have questions about our Diamond Painting group? Give the library a call and ask for Ms. Gina Howell.

A Little Imagination + A Pile of Brain Flakes = AMAZING Creations!

One of my favorite things about working at the library is watching children take a pile of colorful Brain Flakes and turn them into something completely their own!

These amazing creations were made by some of our Homeschool children, and let me tell you… their imaginations did NOT disappoint!

Give a child some colorful pieces and a little time, then stand back and watch their creativity take over! From animals and robots to vehicles, buildings, and creations that could only exist in a child’s wonderful imagination, every masterpiece is unique and special.

And look closely at the pictures… one of these creations has a little something hidden inside! Can you spot it?

What I love most is seeing the creativity, problem-solving, and imagination happening right before my eyes. And those proud smiles when they show off their creations? Absolutely priceless!

Great job, Homeschool builders! Keep building, keep creating, keep exploring—and most importantly, never stop using those amazing imaginations!

The library is a place where BIG imaginations have room to grow!
