The Commissioners were joined by members of VIP to recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness month. After the proclamation, VIP and Human Resources Center, Inc. placed over 600 pinwheels on the front lawn of the courthouse, each one representing a survivor who came to them for help last year.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking for compassionate, friendly people to join theteam of volunteers for the upcoming tax season.

Tax-Aide is a free program that makes it easier for older taxpayers to file their tax returns. Neighbors like you help prepare tax returns or serve in other ways, like organizing client paperwork, managing computer equipment or making sure everything runs smoothly.

As a Tax-Aide volunteer, you’ll receive training and support with IRS-certification, learn new skills, and connect with people in your community while giving back.
There’s a role for everyone.

Commissioners were joined by Transportation Director Joni Stark and Human Services Deputy Director Pam Wilson to celebrate Van Driver John Jaggars for his 5-year anniversary with the county. John was recognized for having completed over 6,000 passenger trips and for being a great team player throughout his 5 years.

Commissioners were joined by staff from Wayne County's Drug and Alcohol Commission and Behavioral Health departments to recognize September as Recovery Month. Staff and recovering community members shared their moving stories about the ups and downs of recovery journeys. Staff reminded everyone that they are here and want to assist anyone looking for help.

There will be a free Family Fun Carnival on Saturday, September 26th from 10am - 1pm at the Park Street Complex located at 648 W Park Street in Honesdale. There will be food, games, and recovery resources. They hope to spread the word that recovery is possible for anyone with the right resources, and chip away at the stigma that keeps people away from recovery. All are invited to join in the activities.

Commissioners were joined by Area Agency on Aging staff to celebrate Senior Center Month, as well as Aging Case Aides Ann Siebecker and Kimberlee Murray on their 5-year and 1-year anniversaries, respectively. Ann was recognized for her patience and knowledge when working with older adults, helping many individuals navigate the Medicare system. Kimberlee was recognized for her passion when working with older adults, especially with health and wellness activities.
