Honored to attend the 2026 Taiwan Double Ten Reception at the Ala Moana Hotel and celebrate the strong friendship between Hawaiʻi and Taiwan.

As CoChair of the Hawaiʻi–Taiwan Friendship Caucus in the State Legislature, I’m proud to help strengthen the connections between our communities. Hawaiʻi and Taiwan have so much in common: we are island communities in the Pacific with deep respect for family, culture, food, entrepreneurship, and our shared responsibility to care for our communities and environment.

When Hawaiʻi and Taiwan collaborate, we both benefit, whether it’s through tourism, trade, education, culture, technology, or building stronger people to people relationships. I look forward to continuing to build bridges and finding more ways for Hawaiʻi and Taiwan to learn from and support one another.

Aloha to our friends in Taiwan, and happy Double Ten!

This week, I attended the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s 2026 Conference at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

This conference brings together industry leaders and partners from across the state to discuss the future of tourism and Hawaii. Topics include the use of artificial intelligence, residential sentiment, environmental protections, and more. The conference is also an opportunity to recognize legacy events and their contributions to our community.

During the conference, members of the Hawaii Hotel Alliance signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the State’s Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), reinforcing their commitment to buying local first whenever and wherever possible. The partnership aligns with Act 237, which establishes the Food and Product Innovation Network.

This is one way the tourism industry is reinvesting in our community.

Please stay safe and vigilant!

Heavy rainfall associated with Lowell will begin to impact the
Hawaiian Islands today and continue through early this week. Periods
of heavy rain may produce significant flash flooding and mudslides,
especially across Kauai County and portions of the Big Island.

Large swells from Lowell are expected to produce life-threatening
surf and rip current conditions across portions of the Hawaiian
Islands during the next several days. Surf along exposed portions
of Kauai County could produce coastal flooding and inundation of
low-lying areas Monday through Monday night.
