The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is developing the Kamehameha Highway Long-Range Coastal Resilience Study (KHRS), which spans the coastal corridor from Kualoa to Hau‘ula along Kamehameha Highway within the Ko‘olauloa moku of O‘ahu. The study area, which begins at Kualoa Regional Beach Park and ends at Hauʻula Beach, after Hauʻula Homestead Rd. (West), includes six ahupuaʻa – Kualoa, Kaʻaʻawa, Kahana, Punaluʻu, Kaluanui, and Hauʻula. The KHRS focuses on evaluating potential adaptation scenarios for sea level rise along the corridor for long-term planning from now to 2100. The study will examine the latest climate science, transportation, and environmental conditions while engaging the community and stakeholders on the future of the highway along this coastline. There will be a Community Open House on Thursday, September 24th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hauʻula Elementary School for community members to learn more about the project and share their thoughts.
