Her impact goes beyond the job. Congratulations to Fire Captain Jaimie Song on her recognition as an honoree at this year’s Celebrating Wāhine Awards.

ā€œMy advice to a young woman pursuing a similar career is that if a dream has been planted in your heart, lean into it, water it, grow it and see it bear fruit. No dream is too small or too big, and just because you may not see people who look like you in the field, do not let that dissuade you from living the life and building the career you imagine.ā€

ā€œRemember, too, that no one goes it alone. Seek out mentors, ask for help and let go of the myth of being self-made.ā€

ā€œAnd when you have some years under your belt, pay it forward, mentor someone standing in the shoes you once wore.ā€

Capt. Song, with her daughter, Ren.

You may recognize her from her time as the department’s PIO, highlighting the great work of our firefighters in media, and informing the public about fire safety.

ā€œFollowing in the footsteps of my uncle and great-uncle, I traded in a 40-hour office week for a career in service, and it was the best decision I ever made. Firefighters everywhere will tell you it’s the best job in the world. Each shift, we have the privilege of helping our neighbors through their toughest moments.

Contributing to my community is deeply fulfilling, and I am truly blessed to serve Hawai’i nei.ā€

One tool. Multiple ways in. šŸ”„

When a locked door stands between firefighters and someone who needs help, the Halligan helps create a way through. Designed for forcible entry, it uses leverage to help crews overcome barriers and reach those who need them.

Public safety starts before we arrive: Keep exits clear, make sure doors and windows can be opened from inside, and never block emergency access.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a building fire at 4:28 a.m. this morning.

The first arriving unit found smoke on all sides and flames through the roof of a single-story, commercial building.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive offensive fire attack with an aerial ladder fire stream and handlines.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished at 6:50 a.m.

Overhaul techniques were performed on the rooftop and in the ceiling to extinguish smoldering materials while looking for hidden fires in void spaces to ensure the fire did not extend into other areas of the building.
