On Wednesday, I joined Disney at Bishop Museum for the blessing of Lilo & Stitch 2, marking the start of another major live-action production right here in Hawaiʻi!

With a mostly local production crew, this film represents real jobs for our people, new opportunities for local talent and millions of dollars in economic activity that support Hawaiʻi families and businesses.

Hawaiʻi has the talent, creativity and resources to compete as a premier destination for film and television production.

Lilo & Stitch is a story rooted in ʻohana, and it’s especially meaningful to see that spirit brought to life here at home.

Mahalo to Disney for continuing to invest in Hawaiʻi. We look forward to bringing even more films and productions to our islands, creating more jobs and showcasing Hawaiʻi to the world!

Yesterday was a busy day, with events that reflected my vision for Hawaiʻi’s future: strengthening our economy, supporting our kūpuna and keiki and building stronger communities.

I was proud to welcome Disney back for Lilo & Stitch 2, supporting our local film industry and creating more opportunities for Hawaiʻi’s talent.

We also celebrated the opening of Hoʻohiki, bringing 249 affordable rental homes to our kūpuna and broke ground on the new East Kapolei Elementary School, investing in quality education for our keiki.

This week is also UH Athletics Giving Week. I encourage everyone to support our student-athletes, who carry the lessons of teamwork, discipline and leadership into our communities.

Finally, we discussed Constitutional Amendment Question 2 and RISE bonds, a proposed tool to finance critical infrastructure without increasing property taxes.

Each of these milestones reflects our commitment to building a Hawaiʻi where our families can thrive, our communities grow and future generations have every opportunity to succeed.

Today, I had the pleasure of celebrating Diamond Bakery’s 105th anniversary alongside several other local small businesses that make Hawaiʻi special.

Since 1921, Diamond Bakery has grown into a household name, showing what generations of hard work, dedication and community support can accomplish.

Small businesses are the backbone of Hawaiʻi’s economy. They create jobs, support local families and keep our dollars circulating here at home.

Congratulations to the entire Diamond Bakery ʻohana on this incredible milestone, and mahalo to all our local businesses for continuing to invest in Hawaiʻi and strengthen our communities.

I’m grateful that Hawaiʻi has received approval for two Major Disaster Declarations, securing critical federal assistance to support our recovery from Hurricanes Lala and Lowell.

These declarations will help communities on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island, Maui and Kauaʻi recover from storm damage, with FEMA covering at least 75% of eligible costs. We fought hard for this assistance and we’ll continue working to ensure our communities have the resources they need to recover and rebuild.

I’m also proud of the progress we’re making through our Kauhale Initiative, which has provided stable housing and supportive services to more than 2,900 formerly houseless residents, with nearly 900 beds established statewide.

From 2024 to 2026, unsheltered homelessness declined 13.1% statewide and 20.2% on Oʻahu. We welcome accountability and remain committed to strengthening oversight while continuing to expand housing solutions that are changing lives across Hawaiʻi.
