This election, O‘ahu voters have an opportunity to strengthen local food security.

Voting YES on Question #1 would establish a dedicated Food Security Fund to help increase access to locally grown and produced food for our food-insecure neighbors, support local farmers and strengthen our ability to feed our communities during emergencies.

And it does not require an increase in real property tax rates to fund the appropriation.

As you review your ballot for the November 3 general election, be sure to take a look at Charter Question No. 1: Food Security Fund. 🌱🥕🍍

This proposed Charter Amendment would establish dedicated annual funding to support programs and grants that provide locally grown and produced food to Oʻahu residents.

Non-local food could also be supported in the event of an emergency.

For Hawaiʻi’s food industry, food security connects every part of our local supply chain—from farmers and producers to manufacturers, distributors and retailers. 🚜🤝🏽🏪 Strengthening our food system means keeping local food production, access and resilience part of the conversation.

💰 The proposal would NOT require a simultaneous increase in property tax rates to fund the appropriation.

📣 Take time to learn about Question No. 1 and what it could mean for Oʻahu’s food system.

🌱🥕💪 Hawaiʻi’s food system is stronger when our local food industry is strong.

This election, Oʻahu voters will have an opportunity to vote YES on Question No. 1, a Charter Amendment that would establish dedicated funding for a Food Security Fund.

🌾 The proposed fund would help increase access to Hawaiʻi-grown and produced food for residents experiencing food insecurity while strengthening our local food system and making Oʻahu more resilient. 🤝🏽🏝️

❗ And importantly: It does not create a new tax or require a simultaneous increase in property tax rates. 🚫💰

🍍🚜 For HFIA members and others across Hawaiʻi’s food industry, this is our opportunity to have a voice in how a portion of existing City revenues are invested in our community—not just for the next few years, but for the future. 🥬

🌺 The 32nd Annual Made in Hawai‘i Festival, presented by Hawaiian Airlines, wrapped up four days of strong community support, showcasing more than 800 local vendor booths from across Hawai‘i. This year’s celebration came at a particularly important time as our communities continue to recover from Hurricane Lala.

🤝 Thanks to the generosity of attendees and support from HFIA and Servco, $40,000 was donated to Hawai‘i Foodbank and Hawai‘i Island’s food bank, The Food Basket. Both organizations work year-round to address food insecurity and have been responding to increased need since Hurricane Lala. ❤️

🤙 Mahalo to our HFIA members, vendors, partners, attendees, and everyone who helped make this year’s festival a success and continues to support Hawai‘i’s local businesses and families. 🍍

✨🤠🍍 We came, we saw, we yeehaw-ed! The 2026 HFIA Convention wrapped up with a night to remember! 🍍🤠✨

🥂🍻 The evening began with beverage tastings hosted by Island Distributing before attendees enjoyed a wide variety of delicious food at the Chairman's Banquet Night Market. 🍽️🥢

💛 During the program, we took time to honor the memory of former HFIA Chair Maile Miyashiro, whose leadership and kindness continue to have a lasting impact on our association. Her legacy lives on through the community she helped build, and we were grateful to celebrate her life together. 🌺

🤝 We also celebrated an exciting new chapter for HFIA as outgoing Chair Kit Okimoto of Okimoto Corporation officially welcomed incoming Chair Jayson Watts of Mahi Pono. Mahalo, Kit, for your outstanding leadership, and congratulations, Jayson!

🎶 Guests enjoyed wonderful entertainment by Kalaʻe & Kalena before trying their luck at 🎉 Bingo, proudly sponsored by Preferred Transportation Services.

❤️ Mahalo to our sponsors, performers, members, and guests for helping us close out the Convention with an unforgettable evening filled with remembrance, celebration, laughter, and aloha!
