⚠️⛈️ WEATHER ALERT: STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING

HAPPY FRIDAY, HOPATCONG! 🌩️

The Hopatcong Police Department wants to make residents aware of the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms moving through our area this evening.

⏰ TIMING: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

💨 DAMAGING WINDS POSSIBLE: A line of strong thunderstorms, known as a squall line, could bring wind gusts of 50–60 MPH.

🌬️ STRONG WINDS WILL CONTINUE AFTER THE STORMS: 30–40 MPH through Saturday morning.

🔌 POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE: Strong winds could bring down trees and power lines, resulting in outages. If power is lost, restoration efforts may take longer than usual due to the continued high winds.

⚠️ PLEASE TAKE PRECAUTIONS:

• Secure loose outdoor furniture, decorations, and other items.
• Charge your cellphones and essential devices ahead of the storms.
• Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.
• Stay away from downed power lines and report them to the appropriate utility company or our non emergnacy number at 973-398-5000.
• Never drive through flooded roadways.

Please remain weather-aware, plan ahead, and keep an eye on updates from the National Weather Service.

Stay safe, Hopatcong!

ATTENTION DRIVERS: IT’S DEER RUT SEASON IN NEW JERSEY!

Fall is here, and it’s mating season for deer. During this time, bucks are more active and may suddenly run across roadways while chasing does.

🚨 We are currently seeing an influx of motor vehicle crashes involving deer. Please slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution when traveling, especially on wooded roads and during the early morning and evening hours.

🚗 Keep these safety tips in mind:

👀 Slow down and stay alert.
🌲 Watch the roadsides for deer.
🦌 If you see one deer, expect others nearby.
🌅 Be especially cautious around dawn and dusk.
❌ Never swerve to avoid a deer. Brake firmly and stay in your lane when possible.

Deer can be unpredictable, especially during rut season. A little extra caution can help prevent accidents and keep everyone safe.

Please drive carefully, Hopatcong!
