The members of the Hope Volunteer Fire Department will never forget the events that unfolded on September 11th, 2001.

We will always remember those who perished, the families who were left behind, and the countless first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.

Having a piece of World Trade Center steel here in Hope Township gives us something more than a monument. It gives us a physical reminder of both the vulnerability and the strength of our great nation.

Because September 11th taught us that we are not invincible.

But it also showed us something just as important: our people are incredibly strong.

When tragedy strikes, we come together. When our communities are threatened, we stand beside one another. And when faced with hardship, loss, or uncertainty, we find a way to rise again.

That is the lesson we must carry forward.

We cannot change what happened on September 11th. We cannot bring back those we lost. But we can decide what their memory means for the generations that come after us.

We can teach our children to remember. We can teach them to serve. We can teach them that courage is not the absence of fear—it is the decision to stand together despite it.

And we can remind them that the strength of this country has never come from believing that nothing bad can happen to us.

It comes from knowing that when something does happen, we will face it together.

We will remember September 11th.

We will honor those we lost.

And most importantly, we will carry their memory forward—not with fear of the future, but with the strength, courage, and determination to meet whatever that future brings.

That is how we remember.

That is how we honor them.

And that is how we move forward.
