With heavy hearts, the Hopedale Fire Department honors the life and memory of longtime member, Allen Fleming.

Allen proudly began serving his community in 1979 as a firefighter for Hopedale Fire Department. He will always be remembered for his many years of dedicated service, friendship, kindness, and the many memories he shared with his fellow firefighters and the community he served.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fleming family during this difficult time.

Extrication Training Day at Phoenix Scrap Metals

Hopedale Fire Department, along with Unionport Vol Fire Dept., spent the day at Phoenix Scrap Metals training on vehicle stabilization, lifting, and extrication techniques.

Crews worked hands-on with HURST Jaws of Life and Res-Q-Jack Struts, focusing on safe and effective techniques that can be used during real-world rescue operations.

A huge thank you to Phoenix Scrap Metals for providing us with the training opportunity!

As temperatures rise, it’s important to recognize the signs of heat-related illnesses and take steps to stay safe.

*Heat Stress / Heat Exhaustion Symptoms:
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness or fatigue
• Dizziness or headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Cool, pale, or clammy skin
• Muscle cramps

*Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency):
• High body temperature (103°F+)
• Hot, red, dry skin (may stop sweating)
• Confusion or altered mental status
• Rapid pulse
• Loss of consciousness

*Staying Safe in the Heat:
• Drink plenty of water — don’t wait until you’re thirsty
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
• Wear light, breathable clothing
• Avoid overexertion during peak heat hours

*Pet Safety in the Heat:
• Never leave pets in a parked vehicle — temperatures rise quickly, even with windows cracked
• Ensure pets have constant access to fresh, cool water
• Provide shade or bring them indoors during extreme heat
• Avoid walking pets on hot pavement — it can burn their paws
• Watch for signs of overheating: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or vomiting

If your pet shows signs of heat distress, move them to a cool area and contact a veterinarian immediately.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for one another, please.
