This picture of the former Rockville Post Office was taken before the porch was added. This building served as the post office in the village of Rockville from 1840 until the 1980s. The building now houses the Post Office Studio, a local art and craft site featuring weaving and textiles.

LAST CHANCE to see the wonderful handmade samplers of Hopkinton girls from the late 1700s and early 1800s.

Museum is open Sunday 10/11 10am-2pm and will close for the season.

PLUS most of the samplers are on loan and will most likely not be a part of next year’s exhibit.

History lovers of Hopkinton will love them! Hope to see you Sunday October 11th!!

This is a group photo taken at the home of Mr and Mrs George Nichols of Mechanic St. in Hope Valley. There are no smiles here! The great flood of February 1886 caused widespread damage and rising rivers throughout New England. It rained and snowed for three days washing out railroad tracks and causing the Wood River to rise to 12.4 feet. At least it didn't snow during our latest three days of rain!

It was 88 years ago on September 21 that the damage caused by the Great New England Hurricane of 1938 was felt throughout our state and beyond. This photo shows the downed elm trees along Main St. in Hope Valley. Wind gusts were recorded as over 120 miles per hour, with peak gusts reaching 180 mph. Destroying everything in its path, over 680 people lost their lives.

Willis L. Nichols and his wife Frances are pictured here with their horse and two dogs. They lived on Main St in Hope Valley for many years. They were childless, but raised a foster son, John Peckham. She died in 1939 and he died in 1940. This photo is not dated.
