2 years ago today our community was ravaged by Helene just like countless others around WNC. All our members could really do was watch, try to keep those safe that we could and pray.

We have so many people to be thankful for, our adjoining departments who assisted in rescues, cut trees from roads while we dealt with the flooding in town and so much more. The volunteers who flocked to our area to help start recovery and brought donations. And most importantly, our own community members who have stood as strong as they could since this happened.

We continue to hold those close in our hearts and pray for the families who lost loved ones.

One day at a time we will all heal, in that process we have to continue to be there for each other.

The Hot Springs VFD would like to extend our condolences to a community member who lost his home and belongings in a structure fire yesterday evening.

We owe thanks to our adjoining departments for their assistance, The Country Volunteer Fire Department, Spring Creek VFD, Walnut Community VFD, Laurel VFD Madison County NCFS and Ebbs Chapel. Madison medics for providing medical coverage and all others who helped out. It takes ALL OF US in the world today to make things work.

Today we finally received a much needed truck to add to our fleet. Thanks to funding provided through the Disaster Recovery Grant and OSFM, we get to put into service this 2026 Dodge 3500. We will eventually have a skid unit to place in the back to serve as a brush truck but in the meantime it will provide transportation to classes for members and be an additional first response vehicle for medical calls and accidents.

At 12:15 yesterday, Hot Springs VFD along with Country VFD and Laurel VFD were asked to assist Madison County EM andMadison County Sheriff’s office in a missing persons report out of Cocke County.

We had a time of departure from his house the day prior in Del Rio, thankfully the flock camera by the elementary school picked up his direction of travel into Hot Springs. That, along with help from a local business camera, Ricker Trucking, we were able to confirm the subject turned left through town at the stop sign. This was crucial in narrowing down search areas with the past travel routes provided by the family and friends.

Crews began searching the road systems on the NF around Hot Springs and into the edge of the Cherokee NF.

Late yesterday evening, crews along with volunteers found the missing individual on the edge of the Hot Springs fire district in Greene County, TN. He was found alive and in good condition.

Overall a successful operation, EVERYONE returned home safely. Thank you to our members who participated, our adjoining departments who assisted and all involved.

The fire has been located by the US on the Stateline Ridge between River Road and Paint Creek. They have two type one helicopters ordered which people are already seeing one of them working along with Cherokee Hotshots and another contract crew to start work. They are trying to find the best access
