The librarians at Michigan Tech are hosting a virtual workshop on predatory publishing next week on Tuesday, October 27th. This workshop will last from 12:00 PM to 12:35 PM via Zoom. Predatory Publishing is a known and growing problem in academic publishing. Deceptive publishers offer fast Open Access (OA) publishing in “high impact” journals in exchange for article processing charges (APCs.) In actuality, their publications lack scientific rigor and fail to adhere to the best practices in academic publishing. Join us for an overview of predatory publishing and tips on how you can avoid it. Bring your lunch and your questions! To register for this session, use the link available through the Linktree in our bio.

Thank you so much to our Make a Difference Day 2026 Volunteers! 🙏 Our volunteers helped the Friends of the Michigan Tech Library with preparations for the spring book sale. 📖 The FMTL book sales support the library and most of the books sold come from donations. We store the donations in boxes that need moved, unpacked, sorted, and repacked for easy storage and access. It's a messy ordeal with hundreds of books, but many hands make the sale preparations easy!

The darker seasons in the Upper Peninsula can dramatically affect the human body, especially the first time. The Center for Student Mental Health and Well-Being (Michigan Tech Well-being) wants to help students adjust. They will be hosting a Husky Hour event called Brain Foods & Winter Wellness to help gives students the know-how to deal with the change of the seasons. Join them on October 20th from 4 PM to 5 PM in Library Classroom 244. They will do a full-spectrum light demo, teach about (and let visitors sample!) brain foods from HuskyEats, and talk about how to support yourself and your friends during the darker seasons in Michigan.
