In 2025, folks told us that they were concerned about the HoCo jail millage language being overly broad. The 2026 Jail Committee asked the County Board to pass a resolution that was specific to their plans for the money. Their lawyers said, "No way." So the Board passed the Plain Language Resolutions 26-18 and 26-20. One of the things they say in 26-18 is what the money will NOT be spent on. Check out the list.

The Houghton County Board has passed two resolutions that describe, in plain language, what their plans are should the jail millage pass. They are Resolution 26-18 and 26-20. Take a look. The facility will have at least 70 beds. Reasons are given in the Resolutions.

Directions to the Early Voting Center for all of Houghton County

Early voting starts Saturday October 24! In Houghton County, for ALL precincts, the early voting will be in the County Building at 19741 W Sharon Avenue, at the corner of W. Sharon and Madeleine Street. Coming up from M26, drive up the hill and pass the sign for Kingstar Truck Campers and take the first or second right - they both work. Coming from the east, past Incredible Bank and it's the next left. There's a big Houghton County Sheriff's trailer parked out front and the name "Early Voting Center" is in a red sign out front. They'll be ready for you!
