UHN RISING Key Terminology and Vocabulary

This week in our ongoing series on key terminology from the UHN RISING project, we’re taking a closer look at Intergenerational Knowledge Transfer.

Intergenerational Knowledge Transfer is the intentional sharing and revival of traditional knowledge, cultural practices, history, and resilience lessons from one generation of Houma people to the next. In the UHN RISING project, this happens through community gardens that reconnect people to subsistence practices, cultural classes (such as basket weaving), storytelling and documentary work, outdoor classrooms, and educational programming at the Central and Satellite Resilience Hubs so that the Tribe’s identity, skills, and wisdom continue into future generations.
