U.S. 22, U.S. 62 Resurfacing Project Set to Begin
Paving work to begin in Washington Court House next week

Fayette County (Tuesday, September 29, 2026) – The first leg of a resurfacing project on U.S. Route 22 and U.S. 62 in Washington Court House and Fayette County is scheduled to begin, with working getting under way next week.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will be paving U.S. 22 (Clinton Avenue) from Fairview Avenue and U.S. 62 (Leesburg Avenue) from Jamison Road to both routes' junction with Court Street at the Five Points intersection in Washington Court House. The project also includes paving Market Street, between Hinde Street and the junction with Columbus Avenue.

Preliminary work has started with sign installation, and beginning Monday, October 5, crews will begin paving operations at the Five Points intersection, with operations in effect during the evening and overnight hours, from approximately 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Work at the intersection is anticipated to be completed in one to two nights. As crews move to working on Market Street and Clinton and Leesburg avenues, daytime operations will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Traffic will be maintained in a minimum of one lane by flaggers and with the use of traffic control devices. Motorists are reminded to use additional caution and to expect some delay when traveling through the work zones.

In addition to this work, the project includes resurfacing U.S. 22 from the Clinton County line to the corporation limit and U.S. 62 from the Highland County line to the corporation limit, as well as the (U.S. 35) connector roads between U.S. 62 and U.S. 22 inside the city. Construction at these locations, however, will not start until the spring of 2027.

The John R. Jurgensen Company was awarded a contract in the amount of approximately $7.54 million to complete the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in September 2027.
