the eastern shores of Galveston Bay near Houston, TX. It's purpose is to protect habitat for migrating waterfowl and songbirds along the upper Texas coast.

The mission of the Friends of Anahuac Refuge is to support, preserve, promote, and enhance Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and its use for recreational, educational, and scientific research purposes In 1996, local residents and refuge volunteers created the Friends of Anahuac Refuge (FOAR). A year later, we were incorporated as a 501(c)3 and have been serving the refuge and the community since that time.

⚠️ Middleton Tract is currently closed. We have a wildfire on the unit that came about last night. Our wildland firefighter crews are working hard to contain it at the moment. As soon as they have it put out we will open it. Please look back here for an update.
⚠️ Update 4pm: The fire has crossed East Bay Bayou. Avoid boat travel near or through the bayou between Middleton and the East Unit. Fire crews are continuing to suppress and put out this fire.
⚠️ Update 1pm; 11/18: No new major changes to report. Fire crews are still continuing.
