As an artist in residence at The Anderson Center for the Arts Houston, I am excited to participate in Black Art Houston, powered by MFAH.

Black Art Houston celebrates contemporary Black art throughout the city. This immersive experience features exhibitions, open studios, and cultural events at venues across Houston.

I will host a writing workshop inspired by Carrie Mae Weems: Kitchen Table Series. The workshop will be led by my friend and local author Fallon Vaughn.

It will be a great time, I am certain.

Happy New Year ✨

We are excited to bring you our first event of the year. As promised, we will discuss 's debut novel Purple Hibiscus.

Join us on Thursday, January 18th at for an in-person book discussion. Tickets are free and can be found using the Eventbrite link on our profile.

“Purple Hibiscus” is a coming-of-age novel that beautifully tells the story of Kambili Achike and her family. It centers on themes of identity, gender, and politics in post-colonial Nigeria. Kambili’s life changes when her brother Jaja defies their hyper-religious and abusive father Eugene. Kambili and Jaja are sent to live with their liberal aunt Ifeoma. While in Aunt Ifeoma’s care, the Achike children learn to embrace their culture and religion. Ultimately Kambili discovers her true self and finds her voice.

We hope to see you there!

Being back in the classroom full-time means that I've inherited the previous teacher’s class library.

I felt a bit nostalgic to see some classics and childhood favorites.

These three made my heart smile. 🖤🫶🏾🖤
