Our team continues to strengthen relationships with organizations dedicated to advancing Economic Development. Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting with the American Turkic Business Council (ATBC) to explore future collaboration opportunities including a Lunch & Learn session and potential DEEO participation in their 8th Annual Real Estate and Construction Summit this fall. Stay tuned for updates as these plans come to life on our events calendar.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the ATBC President for gifting us a beautiful Cini plate. In the Turkic world, a decorative “cini” or Iznik plate is a prestigious diplomatic and corporate gift, symbolizing respect and cultural appreciation. These hand-painted pieces often feature traditional tulips, geometric motifs, or the Tree of Life and are presented during meetings as a gesture of goodwill.

For those unfamiliar with ATBC:
Established in 2005 and headquartered in Houston, ATBC is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to strengthening bilateral trade and investment between the United States and Turkic countries. Through partnerships, advocacy, and regional representation across multiple states, ATBC connects companies and fosters opportunities that expand economic growth and international collaboration.
We look forward to the meaningful work ahead and are grateful for ATBC’s warm welcome and partnership.

The Harris County Harris County Department of Economic Equity & Opportunity (DEEO) was proud to participate in the Greater Houston Business Procurement Forum (GHBPF) at the ION Houston, themed “Doing Business with Harris County.”

The forum brought together small businesses, contractors, chambers, and community partners for a focused conversation on upcoming County projects, procurement opportunities, and the future of supplier diversity in our region.

County leaders shared updates on procurement access, infrastructure planning, community investment, and major opportunities ahead including FIFA World Cup preparations and broader regional growth efforts.

Congratulations to GHBPF on receiving a proclamation recognizing its longstanding work to strengthen partnerships and expand equitable access to opportunity across Greater Houston.

Thank you to GHBPF and all presenters, partners, and attendees for supporting small business growth, economic inclusion, and a stronger Harris County.

As we reflect on recent milestones, we want to revisit a moment that continues to inspire our efforts across Harris County.

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD welcomed the community for an Open House celebrating the success of its Inspire and RISE programs. We were proud to join partners from the Harris County Judge’s Office, Precinct 4, and DEEO to recognize the dedicated staff and the life‑changing support they provide to children and families.

This year alone, The Harris Center has:
• Served more than 870 children
• Connected 850+ parents with peer support
• Linked over 32,000 residents to community resources
• Distributed $2.5M+ in grants for assistive technology, adaptive aids, respite care, and more

High‑quality early learning and family support programs are essential to long‑term success. They strengthen household stability, expand economic mobility, and create a more resilient future workforce. Every dollar invested in early childhood has a lasting return for families, for communities, and for Harris County as a whole.

We were honored to be featured at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH) Small Business Summit Luncheon, where the Harris County Department of Economic Equity & Opportunity (DEEO) joined county leadership to discuss the future of inclusive economic growth across our region.

During the Leadership Roundtable, Commissioner Lesley Briones, DEEO Executive Director Tiko Reynolds‑Hausman, and Harris County Purchasing Agent Kimberly Williams led an engaging conversation on strengthening supplier diversity, expanding equitable procurement pathways, and supporting small and minority‑owned businesses.

With Houston–India trade accelerating and public‑private partnerships growing, DEEO highlighted the critical role of inclusive contracting in expanding economic opportunity for local businesses. The luncheon brought together more than 70 small business owners and community leaders, offering a valuable space to learn, connect, and engage directly with Harris County.

We’re grateful to IACCGH for convening this important discussion and proud to help build a stronger, more inclusive business ecosystem for Harris County.

We are proud to close out National Apprenticeship Week with exciting news!

Two of the subrecipients of Harris County’s Apprenticeship Advantage programs have officially been approved and registered with the U.S. Department of Labor as Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs). This milestone reflects our commitment to building a strong workforce and creating meaningful opportunities for Harris County.

Registered apprenticeships combine hands-on experience with structured learning, which helps individuals gain valuable skills while earning and contributing to their communities.

Congratulations to METRO of Harris County & Transportation Workers Union (TWU) Local 260 (https://www.facebook.com/United.Invincible/), and International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 51 (http://www.iatse51.org/).

Behind every data point is a story.

Through Apprenticeship Advantage, Harris County residents are gaining access to careers that once felt out of reach.

One participant entered the program unemployed and unsure of their next step. Through hands-on training and mentorship, they earned an industry-recognized credential and are now working full-time building stability and a clear career pathway.

Another participant came into the program seeking a career change but lacked access to training opportunities. Through NPower’s tech training pathway, they gained new skills, earned certifications, and transitioned into a growing industry with long-term potential.

As one participant shared through our evaluation: “Now I get to do what I always wanted to do… this was my chance.”

Across both NPower and TGALF programs, participants are not only securing employment they are gaining confidence, stability, and a stronger sense of what’s possible. That’s the power of apprenticeships.
