The TMC Library We are the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library - also known as The TMC Library. Serving the Texas Medical Center since 1949.

The staff of the TMC Library would like to extend a warm welcome to all faculty, residents, interns, fellows, and students from all the institutions in the Texas Medical Center (TMC). Whether you are a new student or are starting another year, the TMC Library has much to offer. The Library is dedicated to providing excellent collections and services in support of the research, education and patient care programs of the TMC and the Houston area. The TMC Library recently completed a major renovation. Please come see the changes. Library collections currently provide access to electronic journals, e-books, databases, and a small print collection on site.

This week we are highlighting our archival collections in honor of American Archives Month. https://library.tmc.edu/mcgovern/

Archivists are specialists who examines, collects, organizes, preserves, and provides access to records and historical materials of value. Here at the McGovern Historical Center at the TMC Library, our team of archivists work to preserve historical collections and rare materials of the Texas Medical Center’s institutions, faculty, and staff.

The notable rare book and archival collections are on the history of the TMC, foundations of medicine, rheumatology, public health, psychiatry, and the effects of radiation. Our most prominent collections include Texas Medical Center, Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission, and Medical World News Photograph Collection.

This week we are highlighting our archival collections in honor of American Archives Month.

Check out the photos from the Murdina MacFarquhar Desmond, MD Papers collection: https://digitalcommons.library.tmc.edu/murdina_desmond/

Dr. Desmond (1916-2003) moved to Houston in 1948 to join the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in the Pediatric Department which at that time consisted of four faculty members and two residents.

The Murdina MacFarquhar Desmond, MD papers contains photographs of Dr. Desmond as a medical student, Naval officer, and a faculty member of Baylor College of Medicine. The main portion of her papers deal with her work at Jefferson Davis Hospital, including grants she received from the John A. Hartford Foundation, and at Texas Children's Hospital.

Dry erase markers and erasers are on the supply table. Ask Circulation Staff if you need markers and don’t see any available.
