This week, Chief Officers and members of our Maintenance Division from Northwest VFD along with representatives from Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists, Inc. traveled to Spartan/Smeal Fire Apparatus to conduct the final inspection of our new Aerial/Platform truck.
This apparatus represents a major investment in the safety of our community and our firefighters. Over the course of the inspection, our team worked closely with the manufacturer to ensure every detail meets our standards.
This new truck will replace our current aerial, which has faithfully served Northwest VFD for 19 years. That apparatus has been a dependable part of our fleet, contributing to countless responses and helping protect lives and property throughout our district. We are grateful for the service it has provided.
We’re excited to bring this new aerial/platform into service soon, enhancing our capabilities and ensuring we continue to deliver the highest level of service to our community.
Stay tuned for its arrival!

We are proud to have hosted the Ironclad Wellness Peer Support class this week. Mental health in the fire service is essential for the overall well-being of our firefighters. The calls that our first responders handle can be difficult to process, and it is crucial to invest in tools that help them cope with the stress of their job as well as the challenges of everyday life. During this session, staff members learned effective communication and listening skills to better support one another during tough times.
Participants were also introduced to valuable resources, including Molly, a crisis canine who is eager to bring comfort and play if she senses someone is in distress.
A special thank you to the instructors, Jason and Alexis from Ironclad Wellness, for leading such an important and life-changing class!

Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting the “Man vs. Machine” class at Station 44, presented by Triad Rescue.
Our crews participated in a classroom session and then moved on to various hands-on stations. These stations included scenarios such as removing a patient trapped under a car, freeing someone impaled by rebar, and assisting a person stuck on work equipment.
Our firefighters never know what challenges they might face on the job each day, but they are committed to staying prepared for whatever the community may need!

One of our favorite days is Career Day!✏️🚒🎓
Last week, some of our crews spent time with the students at Carmichael Elementary and Kaiser Elementary.
Our firefighters had a great time interacting with the students, demonstrating what being a firefighter is like, and showcasing the tools from the engine during a show-and-tell. We believe that there are future firefighters among the students, and we take pride in inspiring the next generation!

Last night, Northwest Volunteer Fire Department units responded to a residential fire on the 8000 block of Bold Forest Drive.
Upon arrival, the first crews on the scene reported that the garage of the main residence was fully engulfed in flames. A second alarm was requested due to the significant risk of the fire spreading to nearby structures.
The fire was quickly and effectively extinguished, and everyone in the residence was confirmed safe, with no injuries reported.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Little York Fire Department, Cypress Creek Fire Department, Champions Fire Department, and Cy-Fair Fire Department for their mutual aid during this incident.
