Houston Audubon is seeking an Education Specialist to join our team! The Education Specialist will facilitate programming primarily at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary (ELMNS) with occasional travel to Houston Audubon’s other sanctuaries and sites around Greater Houston-Galveston region. This role is essential in fostering a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation and promoting engagement with diverse audiences. Responsibilities include program development and delivery, volunteer supervision, facility coordination, and administration of nature education activities. Houston Audubon Natives Nursery Lead Carolyn Klein and volunteers Mary S., Deb C. and Tony B. collected seeds at Deer Park Prairie last week. These seeds will be used to start our plants in the Natives Nursery. When you take home plants from Edith L. Moore, you're buying a piece of local biological heritage! We had a great turnout at our last Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary volunteer workday of the season in May. We replaced a sorely deteriorated section of boardwalk between our two work sheds with a nice and sturdy new construction that will hopefully last for years and years! We also mulched approximately 400 linear feet of our trails and cleaned up the areas around the cabin. Our sanctuary really shines when volunteers pull together with Houston Audubon staff to execute these types of projects. Not to mention, we really have fun!

Speaking of fun, if you want to keep the good times rolling throughout the summer, please consider coming out on Trail Crew Tuesdays. We get together every Tuesday at 8 am and it is a great way to connect with nature and beautify our lovely sanctuary. Houston Audubon is hiring an Operations Director! 🐦📣 This a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of our day-to-day operations. This position manages all aspects of property and facility maintenance, risk and safety compliance, contract and procurement processes, IT systems, visitor services, and volunteer coordination. The Director will supervise the Office, Volunteer and Sanctuary Managers, who oversee volunteers, urban/northern sanctuaries, and the native plant nursery, and will work closely with department directors and the Controller to support cross-functional operations and strategic organizational growth.
