Azerbaijani Students Association in partnership with Houston Baku Sister City Association hosted a lunch lecture at the University of Houston, Houston, Texas dedicated to the 19th anniversary of Khojaly Tragedy under the topic of Frozen Conflict in the former Soviet Union Countries, a forgotten town, Khojaly with special emphasis on Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict. This awareness campaign serves to educate about the actual conflict more and more people in one of the most diverse campuses in Texas. The keynote speech on Frozen Conflicts in the former Soviet Union, with an emphasis on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia was given by Dr. Ryan Kennedy, Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Houston that was followed with speech on updated facts about Karabakh Conflict and Khojaly Tragedy in particular. Yusif Babanly, board member of American-Azerbaijani Council told about the history of Karabakh and Armenia’s territorial claims to Azerbaijan and conflict escalation by the side of Armenia, committing genocide of Azerbaijani civilians of Khojaly by the Armenian armed divisions and 366th division.

The film “Genocide in Khojaly” by Heydar Aliyev Foundation was shown afterwards. The event was attended by students/alumni, faculty and staff as well as Azerbaijani community representatives.
