Since 2023, three deserving juniors have been selected as The Thom Sheridan Writing Award Winners from Mr. Sheridan’s YES Prep East End AP English Literature classes.  Thom Sheridan loved reading hardcover books on the train to and from The Department of Labor in Chicago, and his love of reading is carried on by his children and grandchildren!  He passed in 2023, and we honor him through this award.  A judge selected these three juniors’ anonymous submissions of their best writing of the year as being worthy.  Congratulations to Michelle Castro, Noel Martinez, and Mickeyla Renteria!  All three received a plaque to keep created by Mr. Sheridan’s sister Claire Jones, their names inscribed on the award which will hang in his classroom forever, and hardcover copies from Brazos Bookstore of Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green to commemorate the distinction and continue their love of reading!

Tomorrow, YES Prep takes the field at Copa Univision! ⚽🔥

Join us at Houston Sports Park as families from across the city come together to celebrate Houston’s growing soccer culture and the excitement surrounding the World Cup atmosphere heading to the city.

Be sure to stop by the YES Prep booth to meet student athletes, participate in soccer activities and challenges, connect with the YES Prep team, and enter for a chance to win official World Cup soccer balls and jerseys.

Please make sure your sports physical is current before tryouts and throughout the athletic season. Valid sports physical is required to participate in tryouts, join athletic team, and continue participating during the season. Sports physicals are only valid for one year from the date they are completed. Legacy Community Health is our school clinic and is offering sports physical appointments on select dates. This month’s Wellness Wednesday theme is strategies for effective stress management as we wrap up the school year.

The final days of school can feel exciting, overwhelming and exhausting all at once. Taking care of your mental wellness is important during times of transition and change.

Here are a few strategies to help manage stress:
🧠 Identify what may be causing stress and give yourself time to reflect
🎧 Make time for activities that help you recharge and relax
🚶 Build healthy habits through movement, rest and balanced meals
💬 Reach out for support when things start to feel overwhelming

As summer begins, remember to slow down, reset and make space for rest. Small steps can make a big difference.

This week, seniors across YES Prep are preparing to walk the stage and celebrate a milestone, years in the making. The Class of 2026 is ready for what comes next. 💙

Families, friends, alumni, and supporters are invited to celebrate alongside our graduates by tuning into this year’s commencement ceremonies live.
