What a beautiful Saturday morning in Houston! ☀️
An amazing 70 participants from HCA Healthcare Medical Center, Project Life, and Power of Compassion came together at Hermann Park in the Medical Center for an incredible 5k walk/jog. It was wonderful to see our community show up in full force, with participants ranging from young school children to our energetic elderly.
We kicked things off with a fantastic yoga warm-up led by Sharmishta Ji, which concluded with an uplifting laughter therapy session by Sewa’s Sharad ji. Properly warmed up and in great spirits, everyone then hit the trail for the 5k!
This was a major milestone—Sewa’s 60th 5k! 🎉 After completing the route, participants proudly collected their well-deserved finisher medals and enjoyed some refreshing bananas and mandarin oranges at the finish line.
It was a beautifully received event filled with health, happiness, and community spirit. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it so special!

Three community-led fundraisers across Greater Houston came together with one shared purpose — supporting Sewa International’s Nepal Flood Relief & Rehabilitation efforts. Together, they raised over $32,000 to support Nepalese affected by the devastating floods.
Sargam Melodies, in partnership with Bharathi Kalai Manram and Shri Krishna Vrundavana, brought the community together through an evening of music and dinner, raising $12,000+ with performances in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam. Bharat Patel, Sewa Houston’s Case Manager received the contribution.
Bhajagovindam at Sri Meenakshi Temple, Pearland brought together 100+ attendees, followed by presentation of a $10,000 check for Nepal relief. Tarvinder Taneja, Sewa’s Community Resilience Manager, shared updates on Sewa’s work on the ground in Nepal.
“Brunch for a Cause” surpassed its $10,000 goal, bringing families, children, volunteers and local businesses together to prepare hundreds of meals. 100% of the proceeds went toward Nepal Flood Relief. Volunteers prepared hundreds of idlis, vadas, chutneys, sambar, sweets and other meals, while families and children helped coordinate pickups, deliveries and last-minute logistics throughout the day.
The impact goes beyond immediate relief. Sewa International continues supporting affected families in Nepal as communities move toward long-term recovery, rehabilitation and rebuilding.
Thousands of miles away, Houstonians are standing with Nepal — turning compassion into action.

Senior Sewa Sugar Land Group gathered on Saturday, September 19, 2026, for a session that mattered more than most because in today's world, a single phone call can undo a lifetime of savings. Sugar Land Police Officer Arif Vadsaria joined the seniors' meeting to talk about something we'd all rather not think about: how easily scammers target the people we love most. Scams today don't announce themselves they sound like a utility company threatening a shut-off, a bank flagging "suspicious activity," a sweepstakes win, or an online friendship that slowly turns into a request for money. Officer Vadsaria also flagged one of the cruelest schemes — fraudsters scanning obituaries to prey on grieving spouses with fake debt claims.
His advice, in four simple rules:
* Never wire money, send gift cards, or transfer crypto to someone you don't fully know.
* Don't click links in unexpected texts or emails.
* Verify urgent demands by calling the company directly — not the number given to you.
* Let your bank or payment app handle disputes; never refund a stranger yourself.
But the real takeaway went beyond the scams themselves. It was a reminder that vigilance is a community effort — that looking out for one another, and talking openly about what to watch for, is what keeps everyone safe.
