We’re excited to announce that registration is officially open for our Kick Out Violence partnership, an 8‑week youth engagement and violence prevention program for ages 10 through 17!
Using structured soccer activities and educational workshops, we’re building safe spaces where young people can develop confidence, learn life skills, and connect with positive mentors.
This year, we’re expanding to reach even more families:
• Tuesdays at Ingrando Park
• Thursdays at Hermann Brown Park
Each session begins with workshops on gang awareness, substance abuse prevention, decision‑making, life skills, and conflict resolution followed by team‑based soccer sessions that build leadership and accountability.
We can’t wait to welcome new participants and continue making an impact in our communities.
Register today at https://bit.ly/FutbolitoRegistration and help us Kick Out Violence!

A huge thank‑you to everyone who attended the DON Office of Veterans and Military Affairs Open House this week! We appreciate you spending your time with us at the West End Multi‑Service Center.
It was wonderful connecting with veterans, sharing valuable resources, and highlighting the many ways we continue to honor and support those who have served our country.
A special bonus of the evening was Councilmember Member Twila Carter's heartfelt words, and the Meet and Greet with the new VA Medical Director, Dr. Amir Farooqi. Thank you for helping us welcome them!

Congratulations to the NFBPA (National Forum for Black Public Administrators) Greater Houston on celebrating 40 years of service and impact!
Yesterday, we took a moment to reflect on the chapter’s rich legacy and its unwavering commitment to community-focused initiatives. The work that NFBPA has done over the past four decades aligns perfectly with our mission at DON, where we strive to uplift and empower our communities.

June marks PTSD Awareness Month. A good time to honor our nation’s Purple Heart recipients and all who carry the invisible wounds of service. At DON, we remain committed to supporting our veterans and strengthening the resources available to those living with PTSD. Awareness leads to understanding, and understanding leads to healing. Being a good neighbor is one of the most powerful ways we strengthen our communities. It’s not just about living side by side, it’s about looking out for one another, showing respect, and taking pride in the places, we call home.
At the Dept. of Neighborhoods, our mission is centered on empowering residents, building strong connections, and creating safe, healthy, and vibrant neighborhoods.
Whether it’s checking in on a neighbor, supporting community initiatives, or simply being mindful of the shared spaces around us, we each play a part in shaping a better Houston. Let’s continue working together, building trust, and uplifting the people and places that make our neighborhoods feel like home.
