This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re proud to recognize Westfield Fire Department’s very own Fire Chief Adrian Dillehay as he shares what this month means to him personally.

Growing up in the East Aldine District, Chief Dillehay’s Hispanic heritage and the community that helped shape him have remained an important part of his journey. In a recent interview, he reflects on his upbringing, the values instilled in him, and the pride he carries in his culture as he continues serving the community he calls home.

For Chief Dillehay, Hispanic Heritage Month is more than a celebration, it’s an opportunity to honor where we come from, recognize those who paved the way, and inspire the next generation to lead with pride, purpose, and service.

Six years ago, we lost Houston Fire Department Captain Tommy Searcy of Station 67/A to COVID-19.

Tommy began his fire service career with the Westfield Fire Department as a firefighter. Through years of dedication, hard work, and leadership, he rose through the ranks and ultimately served as Assistant Chief. His impact reached far beyond the firehouse, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.

Six years later, his legacy lives on.

HOUSTON - A Houston-area firefighter was feet away from being hit by a stray bullet that went through the roof of his station Saturday night.

Officials say the bullet went through the station’s roof and ceiling before landing two feet away from a firefighter who was getting ready for bed.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) β€” A firefighter is counting his blessings after a bullet pierced the ceiling of a Westfield fire station and landed just feet away from him as he prepared for bed.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Saturday at Westfield Fire Station No. 2 on Bentley Street, according to Fire Chief Adrian Dillehay.

WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN.

Last night, a stray bullet penetrated the roof and ceiling of Westfield Fire Station 2, located at 11255 Bentley Road, landing just two feet away from a firefighter who was brushing his teeth and preparing to go to bed.

Two feet.

Thankfully, no one was injured, but this could have ended very differently.

Shooting a gun into the air isn’t just against the law… it’s deadly conduct with potentially deadly consequences. Falling bullets can:

-Damage homes and vehicles
-Travel up to 3 miles from where they were shot
-Or worse… it can result in serious injury or death of a person

If you hear what sounds like gunfire, call 9-1-1 immediately. One call can save a life.

Today, members of the Westfield Fire Department had the solemn honor of joining our brothers and sisters in the fire service as we laid Captain Jesus Castillo of Porter Fire Department | Montgomery County ESD #6 to rest.

The fire service is more than a profession, it is a family. When one of our own is lost, departments and communities come together to honor the life, service, and sacrifice of our fallen brother.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with Captain Castillo’s family, the members of Porter Fire Department, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Westfield Fire Department along with mutual aid from Eastex Fire Department responded to a wildland fire located between Brookside Cemetery and the Fairgreen Subdivision. The fire was determined to have been caused by a lightning strike that ignited a tree and burned deep into its root system, resulting in persistent underground smoldering.

Due to the fire’s proximity to the Fairgreen Subdivision and the potential for further spread, Westfield Fire Department requested assistance from the Texas A&M Forest Service A dozer was utilized to establish a fire line around the affected area, helping contain the fire and prevent it from spreading toward nearby properties.

After coordinating with the Texas A&M Forest Service and confirming that the fire was contained within the established fire line, the remaining smoldering material was allowed to safely burn itself out over the following days.

Crews continued to monitor conditions to ensure the fire remained contained and posed no threat to the surrounding community.

No injuries were reported.

Westfield Fire Department appreciates the assistance and coordination of the Texas A&M Forest Service in helping bring this incident to a safe conclusion.

Westfield Fire Department provided mutual aid to the Harris County ESD 17 - Little York Fire Department for a reported structure fire in the 620 block of Gulf Bank Road.

Westfield firefighters were first to arrive, encountering three mobile homes fully involved in fire. Firefighters immediately initiated suppression operations while working to protect surrounding exposures and prevent further extension.

With no fire hydrants available in the area, establishing and maintaining a continuous water supply became a significant challenge. Tanker shuttle operations were utilized to sustain firefighting efforts, with water supply periodically interrupted due to the extended distance tankers were required to travel to reach a refill point.

Despite the difficult fire conditions and limited water supply, crews from Westfield, Little York, and assisting agencies worked together to bring the incident under control.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Harris County Fire Marshal
