LASTING LEGACIES COMMUNITY EVENT
The DRO was pleased to be a community partner with Harris County Precinct Two and the Harris County Attorney's Office for the Lasting Legacies Community Event, a free public event focused on estate planning and legacy protection. The event was held at the Magnolia Multi-Service Center. Local partners provided helpful resources directly to residents. The DRO hosted a resource table to share brochures, handouts, and other materials with attendees.

11TH ANNUAL FOOD FROM THE BAR DRIVE
The Domestic Relations Office participated in the 11th Annual Food from The Bar event with the Houston Food Bank and the Houston Bar Association. The DRO team's participation in this endeavor was “AMAZING.” This event was timed to raise critical resources just before summer break 2026. The DRO was one of 27 legal teams - law firms, legal departments, and law schools - participating in separate endeavors for the Houston Food Bank.
1. Food Drive – The DRO food drive was delivered to the Houston Food Bank last week.
2. Fundraising – The Domestic Relations Office collected funds that were donated to the Houston Food Bank.
What an awesome job. Congrats to the DRO Team!

The DRO participated in Precinct 4’s Housing Resource Fair at the Freed Community Center. Each attendee received brochures outlining the DRO’s services and information to assist them in navigating their family law case.
Featured presentations focused on eviction diversion and rental assistance. Given that Harris County has one of the highest eviction rates in the country, this information was important for residents. Attendees were connected with a variety of resources to help them navigate eviction proceedings and potentially reach agreements with their landlords without going before a judge.
In addition, visitors to the DRO table showed strong interest in child support enforcement/modification, mediation, self-represented litigant, and parenting time programs.

KNOW, SEE, RESPOND - CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, support families, and work together to ensure every child grows up safe, healthy, and free from harm. The DRO staff joined together to Wear a Blue Ribbon to signify solidarity. Protecting children is a shared responsibility. Whether through our work, our volunteer efforts, or simply by being attentive and compassionate in our daily lives, each of us can play a role in prevention.

The Domestic Relations Office (DRO) was proud to partner with Lone Star College for their production of 12 Angry Jurors at the Performing Arts Center. Working alongside the Learning Network, DRO staff shared information about the legal services and resources the DRO provides in the family law arena. The DRO team joined other Harris County departments in supporting this meaningful community event.
The production promoted civic responsibility and offered attendees access to legal resource information connected to the themes of the play—before the performance, during intermission, and afterward. This collaboration highlights our commitment to meeting community needs through trusted services and meaningful engagement.

The DRO’s Visitation Center was so grateful to receive a generous donation of stuffed animals from the Houston Bar Association Family Law Section!
During the case intake process, each child chooses a stuffed animal to take home—or to bring back with them on weekends. It’s always a special moment. Watching their eyes light up as they see the big selection, carefully looking at each one before finally picking their favorite, is joy.
These thoughtful gifts will bring comfort and a sense of security to so many children entering the program.
A heartfelt thank you to the HBA Family Law Section, and a special thanks to attorney Fayez Hatamleh for helping make this happen. We’re so appreciative of the Section's support and look forward to future opportunities to partner together in making a positive impact on Harris County families.
