Texas Fire Fighters Home Our mission is to provide short-term housing at little cost to firefighters & first responders. This housing is called the Texas Fire Fighters Home (TFFH).

FIRE FIGHTERS HAVE AN OCCUPATIONAL RISK of exposure to toxins and hazardous chemicals. As a result, fire fighters suffer workplace risks—particularly cancer—at a statistically higher rate than the average population, which necessitates specialized treatment. Often, this involves extended stays with access to healthcare providers at the Texas Medical Center (TMC). The cost of hotels and short-term housing for patients and their families coming to Houston for such treatment can be crippling, and health insurance usually does not cover lodging expenses. The Rotary Club of the University Area (RCUA), located near the TMC, has undertaken the project of providing fully furnished housing to professional and volunteer firefighters and other first responders at little or no cost for use while they undergo treatment at the TMC for any on-the-job injury or resulting work-related medical condition. The goal of the TFFH Project is to mitigate a large portion of the financial burden associated with this short-term housing during the time that patients, often with their families, must stay accessible to the TMC.

We’re getting closer to an incredible evening supporting Texas Firefighters Home!

Join us on September 26 for our 8th Annual Gala and help us continue providing free housing for firefighters and first responders receiving cancer treatment at the Texas Medical Center.

Together, our supporters have already helped provide more than 9,000 free nights of housing to 250 families. Every ticket, sponsorship, and donation helps us welcome the next family who needs a home away from home during treatment.

Our 8th Annual Gala is coming September 26, and we cannot wait to fill the room again.

Your attendance and donations support our mission of providing free housing for firefighters and first responders undergoing cancer treatment at the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. Because of that generosity, we've been able to support 250 families with more than 9,000 free nights of housing, valued at over $1.3 million. Let's continue that mission!

Firefighters face cancer at significantly higher rates than the general population. When treatment brings them to the Texas Medical Center, many must stay in Houston for weeks or even months.

Hotel costs can reach $4,000 a month, and health insurance does not cover lodging.

Texas Fire Fighters Home provides fully furnished apartments near the Medical Center at little or no cost. We have welcomed firefighters and first responders from more than 25 states, some traveling more than 1,500 miles for care.

When Mike got his cancer diagnosis, he had to figure out where to go and what to do. His journey brought him to MD Anderson in Houston. The only problem: he didn't know anyone here, didn't know where he'd stay.

The Texas Fire Fighters Home provided him and his wife a fully furnished apartment near the Medical Center at no cost. For the weeks he was in treatment, it was the place he came back to after the hard days.
