Maj. Gen. Lorna Mahlock

Major General Lorna Mahlock has made history as the highest-ranking Black female officer in Marine Corps history, exemplifying excellence in military leadership and cybersecurity. In January 2024, she assumed command of the Cyber National Mission Force, a critical role in national defense. Her distinguished career includes serving as Deputy Director for Combat Support at the NSA’s Cybersecurity Directorate, Assistant Deputy Commandant for Information, and Chief Information Officer for the Marine Corps.

Tech Sgt. Shaneka Hunter

Tech Sgt. Shaneka Hunter has demonstrated exceptional service in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. On February 5, 2021, she made history as the first African American woman to transfer into the U.S. Space Force, specifically within Space Delta 2, where she serves as the noncommissioned officer in charge of cyber intelligence for the 71st Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance squadron. Hunter’s pioneering achievement highlights her leadership, expertise, and the continued progress of diversity in military service.

A Brief History

ON JUNE 12,1948, PRESIDENT HARRY S. TRUMAN SIGNED INTO LAW THE WOMEN’S ARMED SERVICES INTEGRATION ACT ALLOWING WOMEN TO SERVE AS REGULAR MEMBERS OF THE MILITARY.

On June 9, 2017 Texas Senate Bill 805 was signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott designating June 12th as Women Veterans Day.

Partnering with Houston Women's March organization, we are making history. It is the 70th Anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act (1948). To celebrate those 70 years we are having the 1st Women Veteran's March. Please see the following information.
