🤠🇩🇪 A journey through Texas history at The George Ranch !
The Consulate General had a fantastic day at The George Ranch, discovering how life in Texas evolved over the centuries. We were fascinated by the historic homes, their wallpapers, and the incredible knowledge and passion of the people who brought the past to life.
🐕 The secret star of the day? Jona, the dog who stole the show during the cowboy demonstration!
A big thank-you to the team for having us. George Ranch is a wonderful place to experience Texas history firsthand—we highly recommend a visit!

🍂🎃 Pumpkin patch season is here!
Have you visited a pumpkin patch yet this fall? 🍁
This one is actually in Germany! 🇩🇪 The famous Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival features thousands of pumpkins, spectacular pumpkin sculptures, and some truly giant gourds. Every year, these autumn displays turn Ludwigsburg into a pumpkin lover’s paradise!
🎃 Some pumpkins can weigh more than 800 kg (1,764 lbs)!
👩🏻‍🦰 And one more question: Who recognizes the red-haired girl? 😉

Walter Gropius fled tyranny and gave America a whole new way of seeing the world.

The founder of the Bauhaus, Gropius was forced out of Germany by the N***s. He came to America, where he taught at Harvard and inspired a generation of architects and designers.

In this installment of Shaping 250 — Faces of the German American Story, we remember Gropius and the lasting impact of his vision, from the glass towers of our cities to the modern designs that shape our everyday lives. His story reminds us that immigration enriches a society, and that what tyranny rejects, freedom can embrace and elevate. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

🌎🇩🇪🇺🇸 Columbus Day: A German connection to the story of the Americas
When Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic in 1492, a German cartographer was also shaping how Europeans understood the world. Martin Behaim (depict on the photos), from Nuremberg, created what is considered the oldest surviving terrestrial globe between 1492 and 1494.
A few years later, German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller helped produce the 1507 world map that first named the newly charted continent “America.”
These stories remind us that the history connecting Europe and the Americas is also a history of maps, ideas, and cultural exchange.

🎶 A great night of music in Houston! 🇩🇪🎸
Consul General Kai Hennig enjoyed an outstanding performance by CAVA, the Berlin-based band, at an event hosted by the Goethe-Institut in Houston.
With their distinctive sound and dynamic energy, CAVA brought a taste of Berlin’s vibrant music scene to Houston, creating a memorable evening celebrating contemporary German music and the power of culture to bring people together across borders.
A big thank-you to the Goethe-Institut for hosting this fantastic event and to CAVA for an unforgettable performance! 🎤✨

It was a pleasure having you with us, Max! 🇩🇪🇺🇸

We recently bid farewell to Max, who completed his legal traineeship at the Consulate General. Looking back, he shared his experience:

💬 “I really enjoyed my time at the Consulate General in Houston. I gained valuable insights into the day-to-day work of a German Mission abroad. I particularly appreciated the opportunity to contribute to diplomatic reports, provide consular assistance to German nationals in detention, and represent the Consulate at political events. Outside of work, it was great to explore different parts of Texas and Louisiana. Highlights included visiting the Texas State Capitol in Austin and experiencing the vibrant music scene in New Orleans.”

We are grateful for Max’s outstanding work and delighted that his time in Houston was both professionally rewarding and personally enriching. We wish him well for his professional future! 🌎

Marlene Dietrich was a German star who became a symbol of resistance to tyranny.

Born in Berlin, Dietrich was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars when the N***s came to power. When they asked her to return to Germany and become a face of the regime, she refused. Instead, she became an American citizen and used her voice and platform to oppose Hi**er.

In this installment of Shaping 250 — Faces of the German American Story, we remember Dietrich for the courage to stand against tyranny and for showing how one person can use their voice to create lasting change. 🇩🇪🇺🇸
