Party for Socialism and Liberation - Houston Building the movement for revolutionary socialism in Houston, Texas! To see what we're all about, go to https://pslweb.org/program

The Party for Socialism and Liberation believes that the only solution to the deepening crisis of capitalism is the socialist transformation of society. Driven by an insatiable appetite for ever greater profits regardless of social cost, capitalism is on a collision course with the people of the world and the planet itself. Imperialist war; deepening unemployment and poverty; deteriorating health care, housing and education; racism; discrimination and violence based on gender and sexual orientation; environmental destruction—all are inevitable products of the capitalist system itself. For the great majority of people in the world, including tens of millions of workers in the United States, conditions of life and work are worsening. There is no prospect that this situation can or will be turned around under the existing system. There are really only two choices for humanity today—an increasingly destructive capitalism, or socialism.

Yesterday, hundreds gathered to demand JUSTICE FOR LORENZO! NO TO MODEL CITIES! END ALL COLLABORATION BETWEEN HPD & ICE!

At the final City Council session of the month, Houstonians gathered inside and outside the chambers of City Hall to demand the swift indictment, prosecution, and conviction of Gregory Feathers, the ICE agent who, after 83 days, was revealed to have been responsible for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s death. At the same time that this city is grappling with the aftermath of Lorenzo’s murder, the city continues to collaborate with ICE and is even considering applying for “Model Cities”, a federal grant that would pay the city $150MM but require full alignment and cooperation with federal initiatives including immigration enforcement. Houstonians do not want money with strings attached — especially when it risks negatively impacting over a quarter of our population.

We will continue to demand justice for Lorenzo and an end to all policies that put our immigrant communities at risk! We call on you to join us in keeping up the pressure and winning what we deserve as Houstonians!

🚨GREGORY FEATHERS KILLED LORENZO SALGADO ARAUJO—EMERGENCY PROTEST!

Join us at the steps of City Hall at 5:30PM to demand that ICE Agent Gregory Feathers be finally charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent, and to end ICE operations in our city!

Nearly 3 months ago, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was murdered by ICE agents while he was on his way to work in the second ward. Since then, activists and community members have been out in the streets and at city hall demanding justice for Lorenzo’s family and end ICE terror in our communities. While the people have made significant victories, Mayor Whitmire and HPD Chief Diaz have dragged their heels every step of the way and continue to facilitate deeper cooperation between the city police and ICE, making Houston a hostile place for our immigrant neighbors. ICE agents have continued to brutalize immigrants across the country. Only a mass, people-led movement can end ICE’s war on working people and bring justice to victims of ICE terror.

Justice will not be served until this killer ICE Agent is charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent. We are calling on all activists, students, organizers, and people of conscience to join us tomorrow at the steps of City Hall during the public comment session to demand Justice for Lorenzo!

🏢 PACK CITY HALL THIS TUESDAY to demand Houston not apply for the “Model Cities” grant, to demand an immediate end to ALPR surveillance, and to demand an end to all collaboration between HPD and ICE!

Houston City Council is considering applying for the “Model Cities” grant, a $150MM Department of Justice grant that would require recipients to align with a number of federal priorities, including immigration and law enforcement operations. We demand that Houston, a city that has so recently been rocked by the ICE murder of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, fight for justice for those impacted by ICE terror, not further entangle ourselves with ICE! We also call on the community to speak out against Flock and other ALPR systems used to surveil our people and to aid ICE in their operations.

To ensure your public comment slot, call (832) 393-1100 or go to the city’s website to register by Monday (9/28) at 3pm!

Join us this Sunday at 2pm at the site of the ICE shooting of Wilber in Austin to demand ICE OUT OF TEXAS! Justice for Wilber! Justice for Lorenzo! Justice for all victims of ICE terror!

Wilber was shot in the back by ICE while delivering for DoorDash. It has been reported that an APLR (Automatic License Plater Recognition) camera was used to identify him and his vehicle. After just a few hours in the hospital, Wilber was released into ICE detention with the bullet still lodged in his back. Wilber deserves justice!

In our own city, Lorenzo’s family also awaits justice. The name of their father’s killer has yet to be released in an attempt to protect the murderer from facing the public. ICE is being welcomed to our state by Greg Abbott and other extreme right wing proponents of domestic terror. We demand ICE OUT OF HOUSTON! ICE OUT OF AUSTIN! ICE OUT OF TEXAS!

The people of Houston demand: END ALL COLLABORATION BETWEEN HPD AND ICE! ICE OUT OF HOUSTON NOW!

It has now been nearly 3 months since ICE agents killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. 70+ days later and ICE agents—perhaps even the officer who is responsible for Lorenzo’s murder—still roam our streets. And not only do they roam our streets, they enjoy a friendly, collaborative relationship with HPD. Houstonians have made clear that they want our city leaders to fight for the people, yet Mayor Whitmire and HPD Chief Diaz continue to ignore their constituents and make easier the job of rogue domestic terrorists.

HPD and the mayor have had ample opportunity to answer public questions about the relationship between ICE and HPD but have shirked that responsibility time and time again. What are they trying to hide from the public?

We demand an immediate end to ICEHPD collaboration! We demand that our city fights for its people! We demand that the safety of Houston’s immigrant community takes priority over ICE. We demand justice for Lorenzo and all victims of ICE terror!

On September 14th a large plume of black smoke floated over East Houston for several hours. The origin was the TPC Group Plant in Southwest Houston, where a number of petrochemicals are manufactured for later production. The company has stated that a power outage caused the flare-ups and smoke, and that power has been restored and they expect no effects on the surrounding area. But there’s more than a little reason to be skeptical of these claims: TPC Group has been operating carelessly for over a decade, and this is far from their most dramatic incident.

➡️ Swipe to learn more about TPC Group and why we must fight for a new system that prioritizes the health and wellbeing of the masses—not the profits of wealthy executives and shareholders!

🎞️🇨🇱💥 THE BATTLE OF CHILE: LIBERATION FILM SCREENING

Join us for a screening and discussion of Patricio Guzman’s highly acclaimed documentary, The Battle of Chile. 🇨🇱 We will be convening in observance of the 53rd anniversary since the US-backed overthrow of Chile’s socialist government on Friday 09/11, 6pm, at the Houston Liberation Center.

The US-backed overthrow of Salvador Allende was part of a longer history of imperialism in Latin America, one that we see continuing even today. But if history has taught us one thing, it’s that the people can stop the war machine!

At yesterday’s La Defensa del Pueblo summit, Stand Up! Houston and PSL member Griffin Walker spoke about the historic movement that developed in response to Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s murder and about the importance that developing unity across movements and communities played in building it. It is precisely this unity that the ruling class fears most.

Blaming immigrants for the economic crises in this country is a tried and true method of sowing division amongst our people. It is only through disunity, fragmentation, infighting, and infiltration that the system of capitalism can be maintained.

If we are serious about winning a new system that puts immigrants and working people in control of our own destinies, we must be willing to unite and struggle together!

2 months ago, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was killed by ICE on his way to work. Today, 60 days later, the family and community continues to demand justice.

It is unconscionable that the names of Lorenzo’s murderers are being withheld to protect their safety when Lorenzo’s family will never see their beloved husband and father again. It is unconscionable that these agents continue to roam our streets. It is unconscionable that our city, with nearly a quarter of its residents born outside this country, continues to collaborate with ICE. But, the movement demanding justice for Lorenzo is not deterred.

Everyday since July 7, the community has been in motion. Vigils, protests, benefit shows, disruptions, and more filled the pages of every local and many national papers. Many thousands of people, some for the very first time, have been brought into struggle after seeing the true nature of this racist, capitalist system. We have fought for 2 months and we are prepared to fight for many more until our demands are met!

JUSTICE FOR LORENZO!
END ALL HPDICE COLLABORATION!
END FLOCK SURVEILLANCE!
SHUT DOWN ICE DETENTION FACILITIES!

The names of the ICE agents who killed Lorenzo are believed to be in a document that federal authorities are attempting to seal out of concern for the agent’s safety. According to the Houston Chronicle, the agents at the scene filed an I-213 form, “which is used by ICE agents to document their arrests of migrants and is seldom made public.”

A DHS spokesperson said “ Publicizing their identities puts their lives and the lives of their families at serious risk.”

Shame on a system that prioritizes the safety of domestic terrorists over justice for those they kill in cold blood! We demand the immediate release of their names! Justice for Lorenzo!
