Hi everyone,
As the manager of this page, I want to share something very personal and important to me.
Kathi Bond, also known as DJ Scout, is not only a pillar of the Montrose creative scene, she is my dearest friend.
Many of you knew her through the energy she brought to the shows, art spaces, and underground events that made Montrose feel alive. She was a DJ, a producer, a connector of people, and one of the key forces behind Earthwire, a grassroots collective born out of Montrose Radio. Together with Mark Martin and so many others, she helped build that messy, beautiful, unlicensed experiment in freeform expression that brought together DJs, poets, punks, lawyers, weirdos, musicians, and anyone brave enough to pick up a mic or turntable. Kathi was at the heart of it, helping to create a space that felt electric and alive.
Now, Kathi is facing a very different kind of challenge. She has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that has progressed rapidly over the past nine months. She had hoped to wait and tell her story after she beat it, but her condition has now made it nearly impossible to keep working. Very reluctantly, and while rolling her eyes at the very idea, she agreed to let us launch a GoFundMe on her behalf.
This fundraiser is to help Kathi stay in her home, access the care she needs, and focus on her recovery with some stability and dignity. If you ever listened to her shows, shared a mic, or were part of that wild, wonderful Montrose era, please consider donating or helping us spread the word.
We are sharing the GoFundMe link below. Your support, your shares, and even your kind words mean more than you know. Thank you for helping us take care of one of our own.

Going to be very missed. One last visit to give thanks.
We are reaching out to everyone today with hard hitting news. The landlord of our property has decided to sell and the incoming landlord has elected not to sign a lease with Cecil’s. So we have to announce that after over 34 unforgettable years, Cecil’s will be closing its doors at 600 W Gray tentatively on November 10, 2024.
For decades, Cecil’s has been more than just a bar—it’s been a second home. A place where strangers walked in but left as lifelong friends, where laughter echoed through the walls and stories were shared over countless rounds. From birthday toasts, to first dates, to celebrations of life, to spontaneous nights that turned into unforgettable moments, Cecil’s has been at the heart of so many cherished memories.
Sadly, Cecil’s faces an uncertain future. Though we don’t know what lies ahead, we’ll always hold onto the memories that made this place more than just a neighborhood pub—it made it a Houston institution. While we’re still considering the next steps, we’ll keep our Cecil’s family informed as we navigate this transition.
Until we say our final goodbyes, we invite you to come by for one last drink, reminisce about the good times, and share your favorite stories with us. Let’s celebrate everything Cecil’s has meant to us all.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.

'A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving' turns 50 this year. How has it held up?
CBS first aired the televised holiday special in 1973. The message still shines, but some characters and scenes feel a little dated.
