The Landing - Houston The Landing is a nonprofit serving survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation The Landing grew in services, partners, and impact.

The Landing started as a dream to reach survivors who were slipping through the cracks. Inspired by their faith, our founders desired to increase victim identification and connect more victims with support and services. Their hope was to create a safe space for survivors, regardless of whether they are ready to leave their situation. In January 2016, we opened our doors as the first and only drop-in center for trafficking survivors in Houston. We were amazed by the community response, and in our first three years we served over 500 survivors! We sought new ways to reach survivorsโ€”through outreach to the Bissonnet Track, at court, in prison, and among at-risk populations throughout Houston. We also began educating the community through presentations to churches, schools, and businesses. One of the most pressing needs we saw in Houston was more support for younger victims of sex trafficking. In response, we launched our youth advocacy program in 2020 to encourage healing, empowerment, and self-sufficiency in sexually exploited children and youth. As we grow and serve more survivors, our aim ultimately is to love people the way Jesus does. We seek to meet people where they are, honor their inherent dignity and worth, and walk alongside them on their journey.

Together, we raised $515,517 in philanthropic support at The Landing's 10th Anniversary Renewed Gala! ๐Ÿ’œ

Thanks to more than 420 guests, generous sponsors, donors, and auction contributors, this incredible support included $429,861 in cash contributions and $85,656 in donated goods and services โ€” nearly doubling last year's total. More than $95,000 was raised on gala night alone!

From Tayosha's powerful story of survival, healing, and renewed hope to an incredible live auction that inspired extraordinary generosity, the evening was a beautiful reminder of what happens when a community comes together around a mission that matters.

Most importantly, this generosity means survivors of human trafficking and commercial s*xual exploitation can find a place to belong, access critical resources, receive compassionate care, and take steps toward healing and freedom.

Ten years of God's faithfulness. A community that continues to show up. And more hope ahead. Thank you for being part of the story God is writing through The Landing! ๐Ÿ™

Today, our team is wearing purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. ๐Ÿ’œ

Domestic violence is an issue that's deeply intertwined with human trafficking.

Contrary to popular belief, most human trafficking cases aren't sudden kidnappings by strangers. In many cases, the person exploiting a survivor is someone they know and trustโ€”sometimes a boyfriend, husband, or romantic partner. Threats of harm and physical violence can be used to exert control and coerce survivors into commercial s*x.

Many of the survivors we serve have experienced domestic violence and are still healing from the physical and emotional trauma of that abuse.

This October, letโ€™s stand through awareness and action.

For many of us, enjoying a warm Thanksgiving meal surrounded by our loved ones is something we can count on. But for survivors who are still working to rebuild, this can be a big struggle.

Will you help us set a place at the table for them? ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

This year, our goal is to raise $12,000 to provide Thanksgiving meals for 140 survivors and their families.

Mental health counseling is one of the most vital and transformative services we provide at The Landing. For a survivor of human trafficking who is processing the trauma of exploitation, learning to feel safe, be vulnerable, and trust again can take time.

This reflection, shared by Sunni Crenshaw, our Youth Advocacy Manager, offers a powerful glimpse into just how meaningful counseling can be for the youth we serve.

At The Landing, our mission extends beyond meeting survivorsโ€™ immediate needs. Weโ€™re committed to walking alongside them as they heal, rebuild, and move toward a brighter future with hope and dignity.

As we close out our 10th year of service, weโ€™re expanding our workโ€”and one of our top priorities is making mental health support accessible to even more survivors. Weโ€™ve seen the difference this care can make, and weโ€™re excited to reach more individuals through this next chapter.

A heartfelt thank you to our counselor, Devante, for being a trusted source of support for so many survivors, and to our community for making this work possible. ๐Ÿ’œ

Every week, our team serves roughly 200 survivors at our Drop-In Center, and often, the first thing a survivor asks for when they walk through our doors is food.

Thatโ€™s why we always keep Snack Packs, lovingly donated by our community, on hand.

But Snack Packs are about more than meeting a basic need. Theyโ€™re also a small but meaningful way to remind survivors that someone in their community cares about them. And we absolutely love the creative and thoughtful decorations some volunteers have chosen to add to the bags!

Right now, weโ€™re running low on Snack Packs, and we would be so grateful if you would sign up to cover a weekโ€™s worth of this essential resource for our clients.

Meet Zoe! ๐Ÿ’œ

For 3.5 years, Zoe has been an important part of The Landing team. Much of what makes our programs possible happens behind the scenes, and Zoe plays a key role.

She helps lead our grant strategy and reporting, researches funding opportunities, tells our story through data and outcomes, and helps ensure our work is accurate and aligned with our standards.

To help you get to know her better, we asked Zoe a few fun questions:

๐Ÿถ Dogs or cats?

Cats ALL THE WAY! I have two cats, who are my children: Olive and Twix. I've had Olive for 16 years -- that's my girl. I do still love dogs, though, just when they're not mine!

๐Ÿ—ป Mountains or beach?

Beach next to a mountain! I adore swimming and the beach -- if I close my eyes now and pretend I'm there, I swear my heart rate goes down. My dream one day is to live by the beach, sorry Houston, but not Galveston. However, I do LOVE a trek. A three day hike up a mountain? Gorgeous.

๐Ÿฐ Sweet or savory?

I have a sweet tooth for sure. Cake? Cheesecake? Chocolate (Cadburys, NOT Hersheys)? Lisa keeps her office stocked for my 3:00pm sugar rush :)

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Dream dinner guest?

Catherine O'Hara. I feel like that doesn't need an explanation.

๐ŸŽ‰ Favorite way to have fun outside of work?

I LOVE to travel whenever I can. Everyone at The Landing knows I love to use up that PTO. If I don't have a trip planned - short, long, close by or far away, I get antsy! At the end of October I'm going to Maine, and I'm so excited (see: mountain v beach)!

๐Ÿ“š Favorite recent book, movie, or TV show?

I'm such a movie and TV lover. If I'm not traveling, I'm seated at the movies, popcorn in hand. It's so hard to choose a favorite, though, so I'm most recently watching Dancing with the Stars now that it's back, and this cast is stacked! My favs to win are Amber Glenn and Harry Shum Jr. (of Glee, NOT Greys Anatomy, thank you). Plus, Bruno Tonioli brings me so much joy -- FAB-U-LOUS!

We just opened up two roles on our team!

๐Ÿ’œ Drop-In Center Manager:

Provides day-to-day leadership and oversight for the Drop-In Center, including case management, client programming, staff supervision, program quality, compliance, budget management, and operational effectiveness.

Ensures services are trauma-informed, client-centered, well documented, aligned with agency policies and strategic priorities, and responsive to client and program needs.

๐Ÿ’œ Case Manager 1:

The primary goal is to assist clients in meeting immediate needs while increasing safety, stability, and readiness for ongoing services. The person in this role builds trust and helps clients navigate complex systems of care.

Sending a huge thank you to everyone who has signed up to host a meal at our Drop-In Center recently, including Sugarland Methodist Church, Vessel Church, Graceway Church, OneLife Church, Southminster Presbyterian Church, Kingโ€™s City Church, The West Church, our good friend Becky, and other kind volunteers.

Because of your generosity, our clients have been able to enjoy pizza, a baked potato bar, cheeseburger sliders, and so much more! Our team is always talking about how much the energy shifts at our center when a group shows up to serve a hot home-cooked or catered meal.

We appreciate you and your incredible hospitality so much.

Sometimes change begins with something simple: a safe place to go, someone willing to listen, and a place to belong.

That was at the heart of Renewed, our 10th Anniversary Gala on September 18โ€”a night of gratitude, reflection, and hope. Most meaningful was hearing directly from survivors, including Tammi, Queen, Jade, Tayosha, and Sandra.

Sharing stories of painful experiences takes courage, and we are honored by their trust. Their voices remind us that Renewed is not only about looking back, but making room for what can be.

At The Landing, we believe every survivor deserves safety, dignity, belonging, and hopeโ€”and that God is still writing their stories.

If their stories speak to you, please help honor their courage by sharing A Place to Belong with your community.

Thank you for believing in survivors, walking alongside us, and helping make The Landing a safe, trusted place to land. ๐Ÿ’œ
