Memorial Hermann locations across Houston lowered their U.S. flags to half-staff as our community came together for a moment of reflection on events of September 11, 2001. We honor all who lost their lives, including EMS providers, firefighters and first responders, as well as veterans who answered the call to serve in the military and others who have been affected. We are grateful for the courage demonstrated by first responders at the scene and those who help us save lives every day.

Today we pause to commemorate the lives of three Memorial Hermann Life Flight® crew members who we lost on this day in a 1999 accident: Flight Paramedic Charles “Mac” Atteberry, Jr., Flight Nurse Silvia L. “Lynn” Ethridge and pilot John Pittman, Jr.

Though 26 years have passed, the bravery and dedication of our fallen crew remain forever in our hearts. We honor their service, sacrifice and legacy they left behind—a legacy that continues to guide and inspire every mission we fly.

This National Telecommunications Week, we honor the voices behind the chaos. In moments of crisis, dispatchers are the calm voice on the other end of the line, guiding first responders, offering reassurance and making split-second decisions that save lives. Their work is the vital first link in the chain of emergency response and trauma care.

Thank you to all members of the Memorial Hermann Life Flight® dispatch team and dispatch personnel in the greater Houston area for being the lifeline in every emergency.
