Elnita McClain Women's Center, Inc.

The Elnita McClain Women's Center, Inc was originally operated as the Open Door Christian Society, which was founded in 1959 by Mr. Stephen and Mrs.

Elnita McClain. The Open Door Christian Society ministered in partnership with the Harris County Juvenile Department and the Texas Youth Commission primarily to the youth male population. The ministry later served as a halfway house and shelter for displaced persons. On July 6, 1991, Mrs. McClain donated the house to the 10th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1993, the house was officially named the Elnita McClain Women's Center, Inc.
