The projected four-year graduation rate for the Wayne High School Class of 2026 is 91.47 percent—the first time HHCS has exceeded 90 percent since the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce began compiling state report card data in 2003.
The four-year graduation rate measures the percentage of students who received an Ohio diploma within four years.
The Class of 2026 projection means HHCS should far exceed the previous high of 89.9 percent in 2020. The low point over the span of data being compiled was 81.1 percent in 2011.
Sean Kiriakis, secondary curriculum supervisor, said today's Wayne students have more reasons to stay in school than ever before—specifically, the new or newly renovated career technology education (CTE) labs, the Workforce Readiness course, the Warrior Academy alternative learning environment, and more flexible scheduling options.
"When students are enrolled in opportunities they enjoy (CTE, for example), they are more apt to stick around and finish the things they may not enjoy as much," Kiriakis said.
At the building level, Kiriakis noted programs like Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), multi-tiered support systems (MTSS), and department- and grade-level teams identifying student needs and improving learning outcomes as all having a positive effect on graduation rates.
