🇺🇸 Honoring Retired Volunteer Firefighter Jack Phillips

Retired Volunteer Firefighter Jack Phillips and his daughter, Amy Beernick, were honored this week with a trip to Washington, D.C., through an Honor Flight. They spent the day visiting our nation’s capital and honoring the sacrifices made by those who have served our country.

Jack served his country in the military from 1961–1964 before returning home and beginning a career with State Farm, where he eventually retired.

During those years, Jack also served his community with honor and distinction as a volunteer member of the Hudson Fire Protection District, serving from August 1973 until his retirement in August 2010 — an incredible 37 years of service.

🇺🇸 Jack, thank you for your service and dedication — not only to our country, but also to your community. Your commitment and willingness to serve others are truly appreciated!

UPDATE: Nicor Gas has informed us that they have had a release of the concentrated odorant chemical that is added to natural gas to give it the distinctive rotten egg smell.

There is no cause for alarm, the chemical is not harmful and there is no natural gas being released.

But again if you feel that you have a natural gas leak, do not hesitate to call 911 and/or Nicor gas emergency line.

ATTENTION: If you detect the odor of natural gas outside in the Hudson area don’t be alarmed. We have been notified of an issue at the Nicor Plant just east of Hudson that is making it all the way to the Carlock- Lake Evergreen area. Nicor is currently on scene and working on fixing the issue.
If you detect the odor indoors, do not hesitate to call 911 and/or the gas company.

Today Lieutenant Branden Freye-Terrell & Lieutenant Cole Kinder graduated from Basic Operations Firefighter class hosted by the Illinois Fire Service Institute.

This class was over 350 hours of blended online classroom and 10 full weekends of hands on training with the total class lasting 18 weeks.
While working full time jobs, raising a family, and completing work related schooling, both still found the time to study , complete tests, online lectures and attend our own fire department trainings. This dedication does not come easy or without sacrifice.

Both still have a 40 hour Hazmat Ops class they will be completing in the next couple of weeks to finish out their training.

Once completed, both will have obtained not only their Basic Ops Firefighter certification, but also their Advanced Technician Firefighter certification through the Illinois State Fire Marshal office.

Congratulations and Thank You for your dedication and commitment to your community Lieutenant Brandon Freye-Terrell and Lieutenant Cole Kinder.
