𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 - "𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲"

🚲 Finished your ride? Wrapped up that weekend project? Take a moment to think about where the battery charges next.

E-bikes, scooters, and cordless power tools bring a lot of convenience—and their batteries store a lot of energy.

The Hudson Fire Department encourages you to charge these items outside when possible and when conditions meet the manufacturer’s instructions. Choose a dry location away from anything that can burn, and use the charger approved for the battery.

𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐭 - "𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐭"

📱 “It’s probably fine” isn’t a good response to a battery that’s changing shape.

A phone case that suddenly won’t fit. A battery that feels unusually hot. An odd smell or a popping sound. These are warning signs that deserve your attention.

The Hudson Fire Department reminds you to stop using and charging a device if its battery shows signs of damage or overheating. Don’t plug it back in to see if the problem has gone away.

If you see smoke or fire, get everyone away from the device, leave the building, and call 911 from a safe location. Don’t try to carry a smoking or burning device outside.

𝗜𝗻 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 - "𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁"

✈️ Heading out of town? Take your safe charging habits with you!

Between movies, games, and messages, a flight can put your phone battery to work. Before reaching for a portable charger, check your airline’s rules and follow the crew’s instructions.

When charging is permitted, keep the device and charger visible on your tray table—not tucked into a bag or an overhead compartment. Never charge an e-cigarette or v**e on a plane.

If a battery becomes unusually hot, starts swelling, or gives off smoke, alert a flight attendant immediately.

𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 - "𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗻𝗽𝗹𝘂𝗴"

🔋 100% charged? Your device is ready to go. Give the charger a break!

Between work, school, errands, and everything else, it’s easy to plug something in and forget about it. A tablet on the counter or a spare phone on a charger can stay connected long after it’s ready to use.

This Fire Prevention Week, the Hudson Fire Department encourages you to build one simple habit: unplug your device when it’s fully charged and follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions.

Make checking the battery level part of your routine—and teach the kids to do the same.

𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 - "𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬"

🎮 The game is paused. The controller is charging. But where did it land?

On the couch? Under a blanket? In the middle of the bed?

Soft surfaces can trap heat around a charging device. That goes for phones, tablets, and laptops, too—not just the gaming gear!

The Hudson Fire Department reminds you to charge on a hard, flat surface, such as a desk or table, with space for air to circulate. Keep devices uncovered and away from pillows, blankets, and cushions.

🏠 𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆: Pick a designated charging spot and make sure everyone knows where it is.

A little change in where you plug in can help protect the place you call home.

𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗽 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 - "𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝘁" 🔥

🔌 That drawer full of extra chargers? It might be time for a closer look.

When your battery is low, it’s tempting to grab whatever cord fits. But fitting your device doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right charger for it.

The Hudson Fire Department reminds you to use the cord and charger that came with your device or a replacement approved by the manufacturer. The wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

And that frayed cord you’ve been meaning to replace? Make today the day.

🔋 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Check the chargers your family uses—including the ones tucked behind the couch or packed in a backpack!

🚒 Lieutenant/AEMT Toby Provencal — 24 years
🚒 Master Firefighter/Paramedic Sarah Delos Reyes — 16 years
🚒 Firefighter/AEMT Bill Mortimer — 9 years

Behind the scenes. At the heart of our team. ❤️

Those words hold special meaning as we celebrate Helen Cheyne’s 25 years with Hudson Fire. Much of the work that supports a fire department happens outside the public eye, but its impact is felt throughout the organization. Helen’s administrative support and dedication have been an important part of our department for 25 years, and we’re grateful for her countless contributions along the way.

To all five of our October honorees: thank you for the experience, commitment, and dedication you bring to Hudson Fire and the community we serve. Please join us in congratulating them! 👏

🔋⚡ 𝐇𝐮𝐝𝐬𝐨𝐧, 𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞!

The phone on your nightstand. The tablet your kids use. The power tools in the garage. We plug them in without giving it much thought—but safe charging deserves a spot in our daily routines.

October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme is “𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆: 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿!”

Throughout the week, the Hudson Fire Department will share simple ways to help prevent battery fires—from choosing the right charger to knowing when a battery may be telling you something is wrong.

Start a conversation at home tonight: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀? It’s an easy question that can help your whole family think about fire safety.

Follow along and share these reminders with someone you want to keep safe. No cape required! 🦸‍♂️🚒
