A HISTORIC NIGHT FOR THE HUDSON POLICE DEPARTMENT
Monday night’s Select Board meeting marked a historic moment in the history of the Hudson Police Department. In one evening, the Board unanimously supported the creation of a Deputy Chief of Police position, confirmed three promotions to Lieutenant, three promotions to Sergeant, and the appointment of three new police officers who will begin the police academy in December.
That is a tremendous amount of change and an important investment in the future of our department and the community we serve.
Strengthening Our Leadership.
The creation of the Deputy Chief position is an important step in modernizing our command structure, strengthening executive leadership, and ensuring the department is well-positioned for the future. As our department continues to evolve, we must have the leadership capacity to support our officers, develop our supervisors, manage increasingly complex responsibilities, and plan for long-term succession.
Just as importantly, this change is being accomplished through responsible financial planning and funding for this position will come from savings within the department’s existing operating budget, rather than requiring an increase in authorized staffing. This allows us to strengthen our leadership structure while remaining mindful of our responsibility to Hudson taxpayers.
Investing in Our People.
The confirmation of three new Lieutenants and three new Sergeants represents another significant step forward. Leadership is not simply about rank or title. It is about accountability, setting expectations, mentoring others, making difficult decisions, and taking ownership of the responsibility entrusted to you.
Our officers and staff are the department’s most important asset. Developing strong leaders at every level is essential to supporting our personnel, maintaining high standards, and providing the level of service our community deserves. I am proud of those who have earned these opportunities and look forward to seeing them lead in the years ahead. Promotions are:
Lt. Shamus Veo, effective 11/5/26
Lt. Jesse Hayden, effective 1/15/27
Lt. John Murphy, effective 1/22/27
Sgt. Nicholas Girard, effective 11/3/26
Sgt. Chad Crogan, effective 1/15/27
Sgt. Joseph Espie, effective 1/22/27
Welcoming the Next Generation.
We also welcomed three new police officer appointments, including two members of our inaugural Community Service Officer (CSO) program and a member of our Lobby Receptionist staff. These individuals have already taken steps to serve our community in different capacities, and they now have the opportunity to continue that commitment as police officers.
We believe in investing in people, creating opportunities for professional growth, and recognizing the potential within our own organization. Seeing these individuals take this next step is especially meaningful, and we look forward to supporting them as they begin their academy training in December.
Congratulations and best wishes to Recruit Officers Madison Hutchens, Liam Weagle, and Kayla Currin.
We want to thank Town Manager Mr. Tom Gregory and the Select Board for its support and for working collaboratively with us, and every member of the Hudson Police Department who contributes to making this organization stronger each day.
Most importantly, congratulations to all nine individuals whose promotions and appointments were confirmed Monday night. You have earned this opportunity, and with it comes a responsibility to lead, serve, and represent this department with integrity, professionalism, and humility.
One department. One team. A continued commitment to serving Hudson.
The future of the Hudson Police Department is built by investing in our people, developing our leaders, and preparing today for the challenges of tomorrow.
