A look at the unique time of Prohibition in Hugo.
Hugo Historical Commissioner Craig Moen has researched and written an in-depth look at the cultural influences of alcohol and how they led to the need for Prohibition and, eventually, its repeal. Offered here is an overview of the national climate, statewide happenings, and stories of local families and how the community reacted and adapted. You will also read about how many local citizens ignored and circumvented the national ban on alcohol. Finally, you will learn about two Hugonians who served time at Leavenworth Prison.
