🔥 BURN RESTRICTION UPDATE – HUGO FIRE DISTRICT 🔥

The Hugo Fire Protection District would like to inform the community that burn restrictions for the Hugo Fire District have officially been lowered from Level 3 to Level 2!

While restrictions have eased, we want to remind everyone that fire safety is still a top priority! 🚒

⚠️ Please burn responsibly!

* Follow all current Level 2 burn restrictions.
* Never leave an active fire unattended.
* Always have a water source or fire extinguisher nearby.
* Avoid burning during high winds or dry conditions.
* Make sure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area.

🔥 Just because restrictions have eased doesn’t mean the fire danger has disappeared!

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping our community, homes, and surrounding land safe.

Stay safe, stay vigilant, and remember — it only takes one spark!

Tonight, members of our district trained on search tactics and attack line tactics for structure fires. Protecting lives is our primary objective and learning how to search a structure quickly and effectively is one of our most important skills. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Town of Hugo for allowing us access to one of their structures to train In tonight.

Yesterday at approximately 5:03 we were paged out to a motor vehicle fire at the Loaf N Jug . While our responders were in route to the station to respond to that incident we were also paged out to a house fire that had been struck by lightning south of town.
Crews were quickly divided to respond to both calls at the same time.
The vehicle fire was mostly extinguished by bystanders with a fire extinguisher before our crew arrived.
When our first arriving crew came on scene to the structure fire, heavy smoke was found within the house. The owner had used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire that was contained to a closet space. The crews overhauled the ceiling and walls in the closet to prevent any fire from spreading further. While utilizing a thermal imaging camera to detect any remaining hot spots located behind the walls.
The owner was checked out for minor smoke inhalation by our ambulance crew.
Both of these incidents show how important it is to have a fire extinguisher in both your house and vehicle. These incidents could have been much worse without them.
We are extremely proud of our volunteers and their dedication to protecting our community. Without them neither of these incidents would have been managed as fast and proficiently as they were. The ability to handle two significant fire calls along with an ems response at the same time by a volunteer department is challenging and requires a lot of dedication.
With so many agencies, struggling to find people and personnel to sign up to become volunteer firefighters nationwide , it is a very proud moment for us to say thank you to all of our volunteers. The response from yesterday shows how dedicated and and willing our people are

We would like to extend our appreciation to the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. Earlier this year we applied for the Firefighter Safety and Disease Prevention Grant through DFPC for two new sets of turnout gear for our firefighters. We were fortunate enough to be awarded this grant and allow us to outfit our volunteers in the much needed gear. Grant funding has been extremely limited and we feel very fortunate to receive this grant.
