BURN BAN EXTENDED – ANOTHER 14 DAYS

The County Commissioners have extended the current burn ban for an additional 14 days. With the continued dry conditions, please help us reduce the risk of fires by following all burn ban restrictions.

🚫 PROHIBITED DURING THE BURN BAN:
• Burning trash, brush, leaves, or other debris
• Campfires and open fire pits
• Bonfires
• Controlled agricultural or land-clearing burns, unless specifically exempted
• Fireworks and sky lanterns

✅ COMMON EXCEPTIONS:
• Outdoor cooking: Propane, gas, or charcoal grills may be used when placed over a non-flammable surface and safely away from dry grass and vegetation.
• Welding/cutting: May be permitted when performed over a cleared, non-flammable area with an adequate water source or fire extinguisher available and a spotter present.

⚠️ Violating a county burn ban may result in a fine of up to $500, up to one year in jail, or both.

Please take the burn ban seriously. Conditions remain dry, and it only takes one spark for a fire to spread quickly.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community and first responders safe.

You may have noticed several trucks at the fire station this morning, along with our engines and tankers pulled out.

After enjoying breakfast together at the station, several of our firefighters took the opportunity to participate in water pump training.

Pump operations are an important part of our training, especially when it comes to structure fires. Knowing how to properly operate our apparatus and maintain a steady water supply is critical to keeping water flowing to the firefighters working on the fireground.

25 years ago, our nation experienced a day that would forever change America.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11 carries a special meaning. We remember the 343 firefighters who answered their final call that morning, along with the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and thousands of innocent lives lost.

They ran toward danger when others were running away. They showed the world what courage, service, and sacrifice truly look like.

Today, the Hulbert Fire Department remembers those who never made it home, the families who lost loved ones, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

We are incredibly honored to have been selected as this year’s Public Service Award recipient by the WRAP Project!

Our department is made up of volunteers who give their time to serve and protect our community, and recognition like this means more than we can say. We’re proud to serve Hulbert and the surrounding communities and grateful for everyone who supports our department along the way.

Hulbert Fire Department was paged out this evening around 4:30 p.m. for a mutual aid request to assist the Norwood Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi-trailer and an outbuilding fully engulfed, with additional structures nearby. Crews worked together to contain the fire and protect the surrounding structures.

Hulbert firefighters remained on scene for approximately two hours before returning to the station, where trucks were refilled, equipment was reset, and everything was made ready for the next call.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wellston Fire Department, the family and friends of Firefighter Flake, and the entire Wellston community during this difficult time.

We mourn alongside our brothers and sisters in the fire service as they honor the life and service of one of their own.

Rest easy, Firefighter Flake.
We’ll take it from here. 🖤❤️🖤
