๐Ÿฅถ Brrrrrโ€ฆ the first big push of colder air has arrived in Illinois! As temperatures drop, many people will turn to supplemental heating sources to stay warm. But remember: Space heaters need SPACE! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Keep your home and family safe by following these important tips:

โœ… Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, including furniture, curtains, bedding and clothing.
โœ… Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet โ€” never an extension cord or power strip.
โœ… Turn heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.
โœ… Place heaters on a flat, stable surface away from foot traffic.
โœ… Choose heaters with automatic shut-off features and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

A little extra warmth should never come at the expense of your safety! Help prevent home fires this heating season by giving space heaters the room they need.

๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป Shopping for the perfect costume for your little ghouls and goblins? Make sure safety is part of the Halloween fun!

๐Ÿ”ฅ Choose flame-retardant costumes and accessories.
๐Ÿ’„ Opt for non-toxic face paint instead of masks that can block vision.
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Avoid long costumes and oversized shoes that could cause trips and falls.
๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Choose soft, flexible props instead of sharp accessories.
โœจ Make sure costumes are visible to drivers, especially after dark!

A little extra care while costume shopping can help keep Halloween fun, festive and safe for everyone! ๐Ÿงก

๐Ÿฅถ As we start turning on our furnaces to take the chill out of the house, carbon monoxide (CO) safety becomes even more important!
CO is an odorless, colorless gas that can be deadly. As temperatures drop, take a few minutes to make sure your home is protected:
โœ… Test all CO alarms to make sure they are working.
โœ… Inspect alarms and replace batteries or units as needed.
โœ… Make sure CO alarms are installed on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.
โœ… Have your furnace and heating system inspected and serviced regularly.
๐Ÿšจ Remember: You canโ€™t see or smell carbon monoxide, but a working CO alarm can save lives!
Stay warm and stay safe this fall and winter!

Hereโ€™s a little school bus refresher:

๐ŸŸก Yellow means slow.
๐Ÿ›‘ Red means stop.

Letโ€™s protect kids getting on and off the school bus! Always stop when the stop-arm is out.
