🎓 Night 5 – Graduation Night for the 2nd Annual HUA Customer Academy! 🎓

We wrapped up our 2nd Annual Humboldt Utilities Customer Academy with one final night of learning—and a celebration of our graduates!

During Night 5, participants learned about some of the technology working behind the scenes every day at Humboldt Utilities. 🌐 They got an inside look at how our fiber broadband network works and how fiber technology delivers fast, reliable internet service throughout our community.

🗺️ The class also learned about our Geographic Information System (GIS) and how computerized mapping helps our employees locate and manage electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, and broadband infrastructure throughout our service area.

📊 Participants also learned how our automated metering system gathers usage information from customer meters and how that data is used for accurate and efficient billing.
We ended the evening—and an incredible five weeks—with our Customer Academy Graduation Ceremony! 🎓

Over the past five weeks, this class has toured facilities, watched hands-on demonstrations, met HUA employees, asked great questions, and gained a firsthand understanding of what it takes to provide essential utility services to our community every day.

Congratulations to the graduates of the 2nd Annual HUA Customer Academy! Thank you for investing your time in learning more about Humboldt Utilities and for helping us accomplish one of the most important goals of this program: opening the lines of communication between HUA and our customers.

This week, our Customer Academy participants got an inside look at what it takes to protect our drinking water and our environment with tours of Humboldt Utilities’ Water Treatment Plant and state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Plant.

At the Water Treatment Plant, participants learned how Humboldt’s drinking water is produced, treated, tested, and monitored to ensure our customers receive safe, high-quality water every day. They also learned about the testing and processes our employees perform behind the scenes before water ever reaches the tap.

At our Wastewater Treatment Plant, the class followed the journey wastewater takes after it leaves homes and businesses. Participants learned how wastewater is treated, tested, and safely returned to the environment—and saw firsthand the technology and equipment used at our state-of-the-art facility.

The class also learned about the important role our employees play every day in meeting strict water-quality standards and protecting both public health and the environment.

A big thank you to our Water and Wastewater employees for sharing their knowledge and giving our Customer Academy class a behind-the-scenes look at these essential services!

💧 Night 3 of the 2nd Annual HUA Customer Academy! 🔥

Our Customer Academy participants were back in the field this week for another hands-on look at how Humboldt Utilities serves our community every day!

Night 3 focused on our water distribution, sewer collection, and natural gas systems. Participants learned how HUA maintains the infrastructure beneath our streets that delivers clean water to our customers and safely carries wastewater away for treatment.

One of the highlights of the evening was watching our crews perform an actual customer water service line replacement. This gave the class a firsthand look at the equipment, procedures, and teamwork involved in maintaining our water distribution system.

Participants also learned about natural gas safety, including how our employees are trained to safely operate and maintain the gas distribution system and respond to potential gas-related emergencies.

These hands-on demonstrations are an important part of the Customer Academy. Seeing our employees and equipment at work gives participants a much better understanding of what it takes to maintain reliable utility services throughout Humboldt.

A big thank you to our Water, Wastewater, and Natural Gas employees for sharing their knowledge and demonstrating what they do every day!

Next week, we’re heading to the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants for another behind-the-scenes tour!

⚡ Night 2 of the 2nd Annual HUA Customer Academy! ⚡

This week, our Customer Academy class got out of the classroom and into the field for an up-close look at Humboldt Utilities’ electric system!

Participants toured one of our electric substations and learned how electricity moves from the transmission system through our substations and distribution system before reaching homes and businesses throughout our community.

Our HUA electric employees also demonstrated electric line construction, explained the equipment and procedures our crews use every day, and discussed the extensive safety practices and training required when working around high-voltage electricity. Some even took a bucket truck ride!!

One of the goals of the Customer Academy is to give our customers a better understanding of what happens behind the scenes to provide safe, reliable electric service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

A special thank you to our Electric Department employees for sharing their knowledge and experience with the class!

Next week, we’ll continue our behind-the-scenes experience as we explore more of the services Humboldt Utilities provides.

🎓 Night 1 of the 2nd Annual HUA Customer Academy! 🎓

Last night, we kicked off our 2nd Annual Humboldt Utilities Customer Academy by welcoming this year’s class and giving participants an inside look at how Humboldt Utilities operates.

Our first night focused on Administration & Finance, giving participants a better understanding of how HUA is organized, how our utility systems are funded, where customer dollars go, and what it takes to operate and maintain electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, and broadband services for our community.

The goal of the Customer Academy is simple: open the lines of communication between Humboldt Utilities and our customers. We want our customers to have the opportunity to ask questions, meet our employees, see our operations firsthand, and better understand the responsibilities that come with providing essential utility services every day.

Over the next four weeks, this class will get out of the meeting room and into the field for hands-on demonstrations and behind-the-scenes tours of our utility operations.

Thank you to everyone participating in our second class! We’re looking forward to a great five weeks.
