Last Thursday, we enjoyed a walking tour of the east end of Huntington Village with Town Historian Robert Hughes. We learned about Huntington’s early history and how the village developed over the past two centuries.

The tour also included a visit to the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Building to explore the Huntington Historical Society’s exhibit, Revolutionary Incidents in Huntington: Occupation and Resistance.

Thank you to Robert Hughes for sharing his knowledge and helping bring Huntington’s history to life!

The library is once again participating in The Great Give Back, a community service initiative launched by the Suffolk County Public Library Directors Association and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, in collaboration with the Nassau Library System. The Great Give Back aims to offer patrons of New York State Libraries the opportunity to engage in service-oriented experiences.

Help preserve a piece of Huntington's history by joining the library for a community volunteer day at the Old Burying Ground Cemetery. Together, we'll respectfully clean around the historic gravestones and plant spring-flowering bulbs that will brighten the cemetery for years to come. It's a meaningful opportunity to honor those who came before us while helping beautify this treasured historic site. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the library at 631-427-5165, ext. 174 or register online. Participants will be required to sign a “hold harmless” agreement to participate in the clean up project. We will meet at the Old Burying Ground Cemetery (located behind the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Building) • 228 Main Street, Huntington

Kick off the festive season with a perfect blend of holiday magic and culinary delight!

Join us for a wonderful day trip to the New York Botanical Garden, where you’ll enjoy a self-guided tour of the enchanting Holiday Train Show. Marvel at model trains as they zip past nearly 200 New York landmarks crafted entirely from natural plant materials like bark, leaves, and seeds. Afterward, we’ll head to the Bronx’s legendary Little Italy for a delicious lunch at the historic Mario’s Restaurant on Arthur Avenue. Wrap up the afternoon with some free time to explore the neighborhood’s famous markets, bakeries, and shops on your own—perfect for picking up authentic holiday treats!

Fee: $189 per person (18+) and includes transportation, lunch, tours, and all gratuities.

Registration begins September 1st and is in-person only. Must register by November 3, 2026. Payment is due at the time of registration. No refunds unless we can fill your space from a waiting list. Please make checks payable to The Huntington Public Library. The bus will depart from the library promptly at 8:30 am.
