Through educational programs, museum maintenance, and exhibit curation, residents and visitors alike can learn about Huntington's history and significant events.

In celebration of the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence, the Historical Society is displaying an exhibit at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building (228 Main Street, Huntington) entitled "Revolutionary Incidents in Huntington: Occupation & Resistance". This week, Huntington UFSD, in coordination with Town Historian Robert Hughes and the Town of Huntington, hosted a rededication ceremony for the historical marker commemorating President Theodore Roosevelt's visit to Huntington and speech given before its residents on July 4, 1903.

The marker was originally installed adjacent to the Chase Bank parking lot in September of 2018 through the efforts of students from Huntington High School. After its removal for safekeeping, it has been relocated closer to the place where President Roosevelt delivered his speech. The Town of Huntington extends our sincere gratitude to those whose efforts made this project possible in 2018 and today.

The Town of Huntington Trail Challenge, which began on Family Earth Day, is a self-guided challenge to complete approximately 30 miles on any Town trails. To encourage resident participation, Supervisor Ed Smyth and the Town Board are highlighting Huntington's many walking, biking, and hiking trails.

Manor Farm Park was the Town's first EOSPA acquisition and serves as a trailhead to link the adjoining 20-acre Town Manor Road Park and 100-acre County Berkeley Jackson Park. Starflower Experiences, Inc. provides educational programs at the park, many of which utilize its trails. Manor Farm Park is home to a wide array of flora and fauna, which may be viewed along the trails.

Please visit huntingtonny.gov/trails-guide for more information on Huntington's trails.

Crab Meadow is the largest contiguous salt marsh ecosystem on the North Shore of Long Island, serving as a nursery and feeding area for an incredible variety of wildlife. Sadly, it has begun to deteriorate as a result of pressure from development, pollution, human modifications, and accelerated sea level rise.

The restoration project aims to utilize a collaborative design plan created by the project partners and hired engineers. Guided by that plan, they will conduct on-the-ground restoration that improves wildlife habitat and helps the marsh thrive into the future. When the project is complete, Crab Meadow will provide ecosystem services like flood protection, water filtration, and carbon storage. Fish, birds, and other wildlife will benefit from a healthier habitat.
