MADISON COUNTY: LOW CRIME. DANGEROUS DRUGS AND GUNS OFF THE STREETS:

Madison County continues to report low crime levels. That work takes every part of the Sheriff’s Office: Patrol deputies responding to calls and maintaining a presence in our communities; Criminal Investigations detectives pursuing cases and holding offenders accountable; and our Narcotics and Street Crimes units targeting drug activity.

Just in 2026, units have seized:

• 39.1 pounds of methamphetamine
• 14 pounds of ma*****na
• 2.5 pounds of fentanyl
• 1.5 pounds of co***ne
• 210 grams of psilocybin
• 684 grams of buprenorphine
• 26 pints of hydrocodone
• More than 100 illegal THC products, including wax, edibles and vapes
• $900,576.35 in suspected drug-sale proceeds
• 40 weapons and three vehicles

Our Narcotics Division and Street Crimes Unit continue focused enforcement to disrupt drug activity, identify those responsible and build strong cases for prosecution. These 2026 results reflect one part of the daily work being done across the Sheriff’s Office to protect Madison County.

“I want to be very clear, drug trafficking has no place in Madison County. Our Narcotics and Street Crimes units will continue focused enforcement to identify those responsible, seize illegal drugs, weapons and proceeds, and build strong cases for prosecution. We remain committed to protecting our residents and holding offenders accountable.”

D.A.R.E. IS BACK IN OUR SCHOOLS! 🚔📚

This morning, our deputies joined students at Central Elementary School as we brought the D.A.R.E. program back to our schools. We’re proud of our strong partnership with Madison County Schools and the opportunity it gives us to connect with students, support their success and help build safer school communities.

“D.A.R.E. is about more than talking about drugs. It’s about building trust, teaching life skills and letting students know our deputies are people they can turn to. We’re investing in these young people today and hoping to make a positive difference in their lives for years to come,” said Sheriff Kevin Turner.

A huge shout-out to our School Resource Officers for the work they do every day to support students, build trust and strengthen the connection between our schools and law enforcement. We’re proud of the difference they make.

Thank you to Central Elementary School, Madison County Schools and these wonderful students for welcoming us! 🇺🇸

Sheriff Kevin Turner, Chief Brooks and Captain Setzer welcomed family members, friends and agency employees to this morning’s Madison County Jail Facility graduation ceremony.

MCSO Class 2603 celebrated 11 graduates who completed eight weeks of detention officer academy training and are now beginning their service as detention officers.

Throughout the academy, graduates developed the knowledge and skills needed to serve with confidence and professionalism, from maintaining a safe and secure facility and supervising those in custody to managing intake, de-escalating challenging situations, responding to emergencies and documenting incidents with accuracy. This eight-week academy is the foundation. The graduates will continue building their skills through on-the-job training and throughout their careers.

“Detention work demands discipline, toughness and integrity. Every day, our officers are responsible for maintaining order, protecting the people in their care and keeping this facility secure. These 11 graduates have earned their place on this team. We expect them to uphold the standard, and I’m confident they’re ready,” said Sheriff Kevin Turner.

Congratulations to Class 2603. We’re proud to welcome these new detention officers to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

WEEK 2: OUR CLASS GOES INSIDE THE INVESTIGATION, AND THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT:

Captain Pete Hose, who leads the Criminal Investigations Division, and agency PIO Brent Patterson welcomed our Sheriff’s Citizens’ Academy class for an evening focused on investigations and the partnerships behind the work.

Tonight’s curriculum focused on our Major Crimes, Financial Crimes, Property Theft, and Child Crimes detectives, who shared insights into the cases they handle and the commitment it takes to serve victims and families. Class members had the opportunity to ask tough, thoughtful questions and hear directly from the people doing the work.

Madison County Coroner Dr. Tyler Berryhill explained the Coroner’s role and the working relationships his office shares with MCSO and other agencies throughout the region.

Christy Eggleston, director of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences’ Huntsville Regional Laboratory, closed the evening by showing how forensic science supports local investigations and connects with the work of detectives, the Coroner’s Office, and other agencies. Class members saw how every piece matters: the investigative work, the science, and the partnerships that help bring answers to our community.

Thank you to Captain Hose, Dr. Berryhill, Ms. Eggleston, and everyone who shared their time and expertise with our class.
